DEAD TERRITORY

6 - Death stare

"It works for me" Lee says as they're looking at a camper still with its key in the door. Logan turns the key and opens the door. She walks in and Colton comes after her with gun in hand. They look around to find two front seats and six backseats on couches. One of the couches with two seats is turners forward and the others are on the sides behind the both front seats. They look back at the beds to find two bunk beds with a bed in the middle of the top bunks to connect the both beds.
"I think it's enough to travel a few hours" she says and nods.
"Okay, who drives?" Kevin asks as if it's not obvious.
"I drive" Logan says sitting in front of the wheel. Charlie gets in the front seat beside her.
"Who said you get the front seat?" Kevin asks looking at Charlie.
"You'd rather have me back there with him?" Charlie looks at Colton.
"He has a point" Colton says and takes the seat on the far left of the camper as far away from Charlie as he can possibly get. Felix and Seven takes a seat on either side of Colton and Lory sits beside Felix. Charlie looks at Seven and then at Colton before he turns to face the road. Logan starts the camper and Lee and Kevin sits down beside each other on the right side.
"How much gas do we have?" Seven asks looking forward at Logan. Logan looks at the meter.
"Enough to get us to the dock" she says and backs out of the parking lot.

After about an hour of driving they approach a tree that has fallen across the road. Charlie and Logan looks at it suspiciously.
"A hurricane?" Charlie asks and looks at Logan.
"Possibly" she says and backs up a little bit. "I guess we're going off road" she drives off the road and arond the tree. They all look at it as they drive past it.
"Don't you think it'll be worse ahead if there was a hurricane?" Charlie asks and looks back at Logan.
"I mean it looks to be worse" she says and looks ahead. He looks up too and see the whole city has almost flown away and been torn apart. They drive slowly through all the houses that has been torn down by the weather. As they drive through it they see a deer walking across someone's backyard.
"The animals are taking their nature back" Logan says and looks at it. It looks up and has dark blood running from its eyes.
"Infected" he says and Logan stops the camper.
"Why did you stop?" Felix asks and all of them have already seen the deer.
"I'm just wondering why it's not attacking" Logan says and looks at it.
"Maybe it can't see us" Charlie suggests even if the deer is staring at them.
"That wouldn't make any sense" Logan says and stares back at the deer.
"Can we please keep driving? It's kinda scary and we don't have much time before sundown. It takes three hours to get to the dock" Lee says and Logan starts driving again. As soon as she starts driving a little bit the deer starts running toward them and bashes its head into the side door of Charlie's seat. Logan drives faster to get away from the deer that keeps running after them until they speed away from it. Charlie looks over at Logan a bit confused. Logan meets him with the same gaze before they both look back at the road. As they drive the road becomes more and more alone and cracked as the hurricane has destroyed everything in its way.
"How do we know we're going the right way?" Lory asks and looks ahead.
"I've been at the southampton port a lot of times when I was younger. That's part of the reason I'm driving" Logan explains and suddenly there's a bang on the backdoor of the camper which makes it open a little bit. Colton picks up his gun and when the door has opened completely an infected wild dog is about to jump into the camper but Colton shoots it and it stays outside. Kevin grabs the door and holds it shut as it can't close again.
"Can you go any faster? Some animals can still keep up" Colton asks and Logan goes faster.
"It doesn't go faster than this" she says and he looks out the window.
"Hopefully this is enough" he says and puts his gun down again.

Once they reach the dock it's already dark outside. They stop and look around at the seemingly empty big dock.
"Maybe we should stay in here over the night. The boat won't go anywhere and we might have a hard time finding it in the dark when all we know is it's name" Logan suggests and turns her seat around to the others.
"Good cause I'm really tired" Lory says and stands up.
"How do we part up the beds?" Seven asks.
"Maybe you me, Colton and Felix could take the ones up there?" Lory asks and points to the beds. Colton nods and stands up.
"Yeah, that's fine by me" Seven says and they walk back to the beds.
"Me and Kevin can sleep under you" Lee says and points to the two bunks below.
"Should we take these ones?" Logan asks and looks at Charlie.
"We don't have much more to choose from so I guess so" Charlie says and smiles a little at her.
"What do we do about the door?" Kevin asks and lets go of the door so it opens itself.
"We pray" Logan says and looks up at him.
"There's not much more to do about it" Seven says and looks at it. Kevin nods and then he walks back to lay in his bed.
