"Sorry?" She let out a hollow laugh, one that carried more pain than amusement.
Jungkook swallowed hard, his hands trembling at his sides. He wanted to reach for her, to wipe away the tear that traced the curve of her cheek, but he didn't deserve to. Not yet. Maybe not ever.
Another tear slipped down, but this time, she didn't wipe it away.
She let herself feel it.
Her voice wavered, but her words were sharp, cutting through him like a blade. "You don't get to be sorry, Jungkook."
His breath caught in his throat. The finality in her tone felt like a door slamming shut, like a punishment he knew he deserved.
"You don't get to say you're sorry after everything," she continued, her voice trembling with emotion. "You don't get to come back when it's convenient for you and expect me to just forget."
Jungkook's fingers curled into fists. He didn't know what to say. What could he say?
"I-"
"No." She cut him off, her eyes brimming with unshed tears. "Do you have any idea what it was like for me? To be left with nothing but your words, your indifference?"
Her breath hitched, her hands balling into fists at her sides. "You broke me, Jungkook. You shattered me in ways you don't even understand. And now you stand here, looking at me like I'm supposed to just... accept your apology?"
Her voice cracked at the end, and she hated it. Hated how vulnerable she felt.
Jungkook felt his own chest constrict at her words. His mouth opened, but no sound came out.
"I spent nights convincing myself that you never cared," she whispered, her voice raw. "Because that was easier than accepting that maybe you did, and you still hurt me anyway."
Jungkook's face crumpled. The truth of her words hit him like a punch to the gut.
"I was scared," he admitted, his voice barely audible. "I was a coward, Y/N. I don't deserve your forgiveness, I know that. But I never wanted to hurt you-I swear, I never wanted that."
Y/N let out a bitter chuckle, shaking her head. "And yet, you did."
The silence between them was deafening.
Jungkook took a cautious step forward, his heart pounding. "I don't expect you to forgive me," he said, his voice filled with quiet desperation. "But please, let me try. Let me show you that I can be better, that I can be the man you deserve."
Y/N's lips parted slightly, but no words came out. She wanted to believe him-God, she wanted to-but the wounds were still fresh, still bleeding beneath the surface.
She exhaled slowly, her fingers trembling at her sides. "I don't know if I can do this again, Jungkook," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know if I can survive another heartbreak."
Jungkook's eyes darkened with something heavy, something almost painful.
"Then I'll make sure you never have to."
His voice was steady, firm. But Y/N knew words were easy.
Promises were even easier to break.
And she wasn't ready to be broken again.
So she took another step back, putting more distance between them, even as her heart screamed at her to stay.
"I need time," she said, her voice barely holding together. "Time to figure out if I can even trust you again."
