I had first heard the word 'prom' when I was in 7th grade. My sister Annabelle was in her freshman year of high school and would be attending prom, after Aaron[a junior] had asked her to go with him.
Mom was beyond happy when Annabelle told her. No other girl in my sisters grade had been asked to go that year, which gave mother the satisfaction to be able to gloat in front of all her friends that her daughter would be attending prom as a freshman.
I remember asking Annabelle what prom was, and how in love I was with the idea of going once she had told me all about it.
I also remembered how disappointing it had been when no one asked me my freshman or sophomore year.
When junior year came, and I was finally capable of going to prom without having an upperclassmen ask me, I was beyond excited.
I was still secretly wishing for someone to ask me, but I didn't completely get my hopes up.
Thankfully my wish came true and I was asked by one of the handsomest guys at McBridge.
His name had been Luke Castle, a gorgeous senior with blond hair and blue eyes.
He was on the varsity basketball team with my best friend Felix, (who had been dropping hints about Luke asking me), and asked me during one of their basketball games.
I had gone to support the team and was surprised when they paused the game for him to make his big announcement.
Sadly, on the day before my junior prom my grandfather had a heart attack and passed away.
My family and I had to fly to Chicago and I had to cancel on Luke.
He ended up taking another senior named Mallory Casanova to prom.
Now they both attend NYU and are happily together.
Anyway, you're probably wondering why I'm talking about prom so let me tell you.
My senior prom is in one week and my mother and best friend are trying to convince me to go, but unlike my past years where I have been waiting for the day to come, this year is the complete opposite.
"Come on Theresa! It's your senior year darling, you need to attend prom. Who cares if you are two months pregnant! You can't even tell," my dear mother exclaimed for what seemed like the thousand time.
I rolled my eyes and continued munching on the popcorn I was currently eating.
"That is exactly why I don't want to go to prom mom! Because I'm pregnant and I can easily get tired or something bad can happen that can affect the baby," I said creating yet another excuse.
She huffed and turned to my best friend. "Please try to convince her on how ridiculous she sounds and why she should go Felix," she begged before stomping away like a teenage girl who was just told she couldn't go out tonight.
I turned to look at Felix and glared. "Don't you even try Felix. I'm not going and that's final."
Felix sigh and raised his hands up in mock surrender. "Okay, okay Tessa. I won't try to convince you because I know your pregnancy hormones are everywhere and you'll probably chop my balls off, but... I told my mother you were going to go to prom with me so she went and bought you this beautiful dress and everything. You wouldn't want it to be a waste of money would you?" he asks looking at me with puppy dog eyes.
I groan.
Felix knows how much I love his mother and how I'd never do anything to disappoint her or hurt her feelings. Mrs. Santos is the sweetest person in the world, you can't just do that to her.
"You wouldn't want her to be disappointed would you?" He continued in a baby voice.
I glared at him. "I hate you so much Felix Santos," I grumbled.
"No you don't baby girl! You love me. So you'll go to prom with me then?" He said smirking.
I sigh but nodded. "Yes. But this is just because of your mother Felix! Do not think it's for you! And if I look fat in my dress I'm murdering you," I huffed out.
Felix rolled his eyes at me. "Don't be so dramatic Theresa. Now come on and let's go get something to eat. I'm starving" he exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes but slowly got up and set the popcorn bowl on the coffee table.
"Where do you want to go eat?" I asked slipping on my sandals.
Ugh, my feet were starting to swell up.
"How about Cherry's? It's past lunch time so it shouldn't be so crowded," he exclaimed grabbing his car keys off my kitchen counter.
I nodded and followed him out the door.

Once we arrived at Cherry's we took a seat on a little booth in the middle of the restaurant, a waitress appeared to give us our menus.
"Hello, welcome to Cherry's my name is Lucy and I will be your waitress for today. What can I get for you guys to drink?" She asked cheerfully handing us our menus.
"Can I get a large Dr. Pepper please," Felix said opening his menu.
Lucy scribbled it down on her notepad before turning to me.
"Um, I'll have a large lemonade please," I said giving her a small smile.
She smiled back, wrote it down on her notepad, before saying, "Okie dokie I'll be back with your drinks and to take your orders."
Then she turned and walked away.
"Hey I really need to pee, can you order me the medium rare steak, with mash potatoes and a caesar salad please. I'll be right back," Felix exclaimed before getting up and walking toward the hall where the bathrooms were located.
I sigh and looked down at my phone to see I had a few Instagram and Twitter notifications along with a text message from Annabelle.
