"Kitty, maybe it's time to accept that we're not gonna find it!" Maya whined as she stepped into yet another cobweb in Kitty's Grandparents attic.
Kitty, who was crouched over a large and very chewed cardboard box, shook her head determinedly. "Dad said that anything of mom's was put in the attic."
Maya rolled her eyes. "I'm well aware, you asked me to come "help you clean" but we've been up here for hours and you haven't found anything. Don't you think it's time to just accept that you're not going to find what you're looking for?"
Kitty looked up at her best friend in annoyance. "You know this would go a lot faster if you actually helped."
"You did not just sass me!" Maya gasped.
"Oh, I think I did!"
Maya's mouth twisted into a smirk. "You bitch," she chided before she jumped at Kitty. They both squealed as they tickled each other, before Maya's arm flung out and knocked over one of the boxes Kitty had been digging through. A small ring binder book lay on the floor, with Kitty's mom's name on the front.
"Oh my god," Kitty breathed as she reached over to it. "This is mom's photobook. She must have kept it when she was younger."
"Woah. I had no idea you're mom kept a photobook." Maya questioned, as she sat up behind Kitty.
"Neither did I." Kitty flipped through some of the pages.
"Wait, Kitty," Maya breathed as she pointed at the crest on Eve's school uniform. "KISS. Isn't that the school Dae goes to?" She questioned. Kitty's eyes brightened and she turned to her best friend, her mouth wide open.
"My mom went to high school in Korea," they both stared at each other "the same school." They repeated at the same time.
Two days later, Kitty ran into Maya's kitchen and threw her school bag on the table before dumping out the contents. Amongst the lip glosses and hair clips were several pamphlets from KISS.
"I've been doing some research on KISS. Apparently it's a mixed boarding school in Korea called the Koreans Independent School of Seoul. They accept applications from all over the world, they allow late entries and they have different scholarships." She opened one of the many prospectus's she had from the school and pointed at a page with scholarships. "This is the scholarship that my mom applied for and got."
"Wow Kitty. That's an impressive amount of research you've done." She picked up a print out from the class of 1993. "Is that your mom?" She pointed to a young woman in the photo.
"Yep. And next to her is a woman called Jina who my mom must have been friends with because there's this photo in the photobook." She opened the book and, sure enough, there was a picture labelled "Eve Song and Jina Lim".
"Kitty."
"Uh huh." Her friend responded and she kept her eyes on the photo.
"Why did you do so much research?"
