Lenora POV

"Oh my god I'm exhausted," mom exclaimed dramatically as soon as she walked through the front door.

I looked at the clock and realised it was almost 10:30pm. I hadn't even noticed how late it had gotten, I was still sat at the dining table attempting to finish my science project.
I was glad I was still awake though, I hadn't seen my mom since she dropped me off at school this morning.

"Hi bubbas," she said, coming straight over to give me a hug.

"Hi," I yawned tiredly.

"Where's your grandma?" She asked curiously.

"Probably asleep on the sofa," I chuckled.

Mom also turned to look at the clock.

"It is pretty late isn't it?" she sighed, running her hand through my hair and down my back.

"I'll go wake grandma up so she can get off home," mom said.

"She needs to pack for her trip tomorrow," I reminded her.

"Oh crap I'd forgotten about that,"

I heard her calmly go and wake up my grandma in the lounge, the two of them engaging in a small conversation before coming into the kitchen.

"Has my baby been good?" Mom asked grandma, sending my a little wink.

"An angel as always," grandma said, coming to hug me goodbye.

"Get to bed soon both of you. Especially you little lady," she said playfully.

"I will," I smiled.

"Enjoy Florida grandma," I waved after her.

Grandma left, leaving mom and I alone.

"I don't think your grandma was prepared for me to finish work so late," mom shrugged guiltily.

"I'm thirteen now, I don't need a babysitter," I pointed out.

"I'll be the judge of that bubs," she smirked.

"I'm gonna go shower and go straight to bed, I'm absolutely exhausted," she sighed.

"You need to get ready for bed too. I'll come tuck you in after my shower," she added about to head to her bedroom.

"But mom, you said you'd help with my science project," I reminded her.

She stopped in her tracks and tilted her head.

"It's really late Nori, I'll help tomorrow," she said with a soft smile.

"Okay," I replied quietly, secretly really disappointed.

"I promise," She said, placing her hand lovingly on my cheek.

I nodded and let her go to shower.

I didn't bother telling her my project was due tomorrow, there didn't seem much point.

Guess I'd have to figure the rest out on my own. I carried on working until I heard the shower turn off and quickly raced to my room to get my pyjamas on.

I climbed into bed just as my mom entered my room, her makeup removed and wearing her blue, silk robe.

She climbed in beside me and I felt myself relax for the first time all day. This was the only real time I got with my mom lately and I wanted to savour it.

"I missed you today," I admitted, snuggling further into her side.

She moved her arms around me and held me close.
