The thing about being in one of the hardest majors is being academically challenged.
Like, yeah I signed up for this but what the fuck is this?
"I can't do this no more," San wailed for the nth time this year, tears glittering in his eyes and all. "I want to drop out."
There might be more truth to his words this time, though, considering it was finals week and bro has been sighted lingering suspiciously about the Business buildings and making new Business major friends.
Source? My only Business friend Yangyang. Very reliable, trust me, bro.
"Shut the fuck up," Yeosang threw a stapled stack of notes at him unsympathetically. "Just study."
We were currently huddled in a corner of the school library in our most hobo clothes, looking dreadfully like the rest of the Engineering community- sleep-deprived and on the verge of another mental breakdown.
Whoever said that being in a less known school would mean an easier A clearly did not go to a less known school.
"You only want to drop out? That's nothing. I want to die," Seonghwa mumbled, sounding like he really meant it. "Someone poison me now. Please."
And well, since life was a funny thing and there's some truth to needing to be careful of what you wish for, Seonghwa indeed got poisoned.
He'd apparently eaten some pudding he didn't know expired long ago and broski got himself a case of food poisoning. Extremely unfortunate indeed.
"Shit, what if I end up flunking out for real?" San worried. "Damn, I was kidding about dropping out man. Hope God didn't take that request seriously."
We were one man down, but still going strong as depressed engineers cramming for the endless tests coming our way.
Yeosang tsked, throwing the Choi boy another stack of papers. "How about you start studying for real?"
"I have been! And I still am!" San protested. "I'm trying my best, can't you see?"
"If this is your best, it truly is slightly concerning," I mused, eyeing the doodles all over San's iPad. "The screaming duck at that corner there be cute though."
"Oh why, thank you," he beamed. "It's me as a duck."
Yeosang shook his head, disappointed.
"To be honest, I don't think you need to worry about flunking out," I reassured. "This exam is only 15%."
The wonderful thing about Engineering is how low weightage exams were, and the not so wonderful thing is that we have too many 'mini' and 'surprise' tests in the middle that contributed to the overall grade. Oh, let's not forget the projects too, to Hell be damned with those.
"I know, but this 15% might be make or break as to whether I can continue staying on campus," San sighed gloomily.
For the convenience of it all, everyone loved staying in campus dorms. But due to the immense shortage of rooms, who got to stay in dorms were decided based on merit and contributions like participation in stupid activities, interest groups, et cetera.
Unfortunately, San, who had severe commitment issues, didn't make the cut for contributions this year, so he was currently fighting for his life against the other scholars like Yeosang. Except Yeosang, with his current grade, has already made the cut. He was just here to raise the already impossible bar higher up for poor San.
"Can you just not take the exam?" San complained, kicking Yeosang.
The Kang boy kicked him back, flipping him a bird. "No."
Well at the end of the year, San had indeed not flunk out, but he did lose dorm stay. He scrapped a pretty decent grade for the effort he invested into studying- or the lack of- so he wasn't in too much trouble with his parents.
"I can't believe the year just ended like that," San said mournfully. "It felt like just yesterday I'd to start adapting to Yeosang the prick suddenly tagging along to my bestie."
The Kang boy rolled his eyes.
"The holidays will pass even faster," Seonghwa sighed, waving a hand when he sighted his parents' car in the driveway. "See y'all next semester."
"And that's my cue," San announced when someone called out his name, gesturing him to them. "Bye Byun, bye insufferable prick! Call me if you're doing anything fun this hols."
I snorted, "Don't wait on the phone. My only plan this holidays is to dissociate in my room."
"As expected." He blew a kiss at us and sashayed off obnoxiously.
It was just Yeosang and I now, awkwardly waiting for our rides.
"The year passed so quickly," the Kang boy broke the silence. "It was kind of fun being with y'all."
Aw. I grinned, "I mean, we can always hang out over the holidays. I have no solid plans made."
The corners of his eyes crinkled. "You really wanna hang out? Like, just us?"
"Why not?" I shrugged, seeing no problems. "You can drop by anytime, I'm usually at home or on my way home, anyway."
Yeosang's lips quirked up. "Okay," he lifted his eyes from me to the driveway, where a lambo pulled up. "I'll see you soon then."
I waved, "See you!"
An arm swung about my shoulders seconds after the Kang boy departed.
"Another semester, another semester break," Renjun announced, ignoring the side-glances sent his way, "Are you ready to chill and do nothing at home again?"
I nod solemnly, "Always."
