The town you lived in was small. Anyone could bump into everyone, so it wasn't odd when you ran into Duncan while you were out getting a couple things in town. You saw him at the diner you frequented, you liked the coffee there.

"Hey there, stranger." You feel happy seeing Duncan.

"One coffee, please." You sit beside him, smile, and wait for your coffee.

"Hi there." He didn't smile back but you didn't care, he was eating breakfast, not everyone is joyous in the morning.

You took a sip of your coffee as you both just sat in silence.

"It's funny that we're neighbors." It gets a laugh out of him.

"Yes, it is funny." You finished your coffee and he finished his breakfast.

"So where are you heading after this?" You asked curiously.

"I'm gonna go get some groceries." He stuffed his hands in his pockets and you bid him goodbye.

"Alright, have fun." You left and went to pick up some flowers in a cute vase. The florist complimented your choice as you paid, you were pretty sure she was just trying to get you to buy more from their shop but it worked, you were going to buy from there again. You were headed home when all of a sudden your engine started sputtering.

You pulled over to the side of the road, it was snowing and you were cold. You tried to call a tow company but you were in the middle of nowhere. The one thing you hated about this damned place, no service. You wished you could've called anyone, you wanted to call emergency services but you saw headlights in the distance.

You were cold and stranded and all thoughts of danger driving the car left, you just wanted to get home.

You waved the car down as it halted to a spot. I went up to the drivers window and to my surprise.

"Duncan?!" You had never felt more relieved in your entire life.

"What's the problem, Y/N?" He looked concerned as he put the car in park and unbuckled himself.

I'm glad I was the first one to find him, having a stranger pick him up would've been bad, or worse.

"I'm not sure, my car broke down, and I have no service. Can you drive me home?"

"Of course, get in." You sat down and he buckled himself up again as he began to drive.

"So, what's gonna happen with your car?"

"Not sure, I'll figure that out when I get home. Did you get your groceries?" I was just trying to make conversation, he'd shut me down if he didn't want to,  and you were comfortable with the silence.

"In the back, we can go back to my place, I'll make you something to eat while you sort out your whole car situation." You nodded as you stared at him while he focused on the road.

"You look good when you drive." You saw a smile tug at his mouth.

"Quite forward, are we?"

"Just being honest." You looked away shrugging as you started to smile too. "Your place sounds good. I didn't want to cook anyways."

He pulled up to his house, you got out and saw your house across the lake. He carried his bag of groceries as he opened the door for you. You walked in and put your coat up. You've known each other long enough to know where everything is.

"Can I make coffee? I'm still kinda cold." He placed his groceries down as he put his coat up.

"Yeah, I'll start the fire." You sit down at the table with your cup of coffee as he started making food. You weren't sure what he was making but it smelt good. I went up behind him as I wrapped my hands around his waist.
