You woke up in the bed you passed out in. You forced yourself up and realized you had been cleaned up.
I heard rustling, went to the room, and I saw him waking up.
"How did you rest?"
You were halfway through stretching when you heard the question, you put up a finger to pause him while you finished waking up.
"Very well, thank you Duncan." He nodded as you walked towards him, pressing a kiss against his cheek. The way I felt for him made my heart ache, people were after me and I got him involved. I'm afraid it's too late but I could still save him, maybe.
"Have you eaten our supposed lunch? Because if not I will gladly eat it right now, I'm starving."
"Go sit down, I'll have your food for you."
"Thank you~" As you went to go sit down at the table, Duncan heated up the food and gave it to you as he sat down to join you. After a few minutes of silence between the two of you, there was a hint of hesitance as Duncan broke it.
"...Hey Y/N, I'm not who you think I am." There was a pause as you were raising another forkful of food to your mouth, placing it back down as you looked at him, waiting for him to add more to his claim.
"I'm not..."
"Not what? A good guy? What if I'm not either, I'm not a good person, so what?" You interrupted his explanation. He was trying to push you away. You weren't sure if you wanted to know his actual reason and you weren't sure if you would care about the next words he spoke. He was the change you needed and desperately wanted in your life.
Another pause, you kept eating and you heard regret trickle in his voice, but he had already spoken.
"That's one way to put it." He spoke as he reached for a cigarette, fiddling his pockets for a lighter. You pulled out yours and sparked a flame in front of him, all he needed to do was lean forward.
"Enough for me to run away? A little too late for that Duncan, don't you think?" Duncan took a deep breath of his cigarette with furrowed eyebrows as he looked away. You felt an ache. He really was trying to push you away. You didn't wish for it to be true but you weren't going to fight a man as determined as him. Your appetite disappeared, causing you to place your fork down.
"Well then, I should go get my car. I'd like for it to keep all of its tires." You joked dryly as you switched subjects. Feeling a sting in your jaw as you spoke.
"Why don't you finish your food?" Duncan had only been holding his cigarette, slowly burning away.
"I'm full, thanks." You felt bad for pushing back but he pushed first, the damage is done, so it was time to leave. You walked to the coat rack to get your jacket, bundling up before stepping out to the unwelcoming, cold weather.
"I'll see you later Duncan," the words felt empty to yourself but they seemed to carry something else when Duncan heard them.
"Yeah, good luck with your car." You nodded, smiled, and walked out; heading towards your house. You felt warmer outside than you had inside.
"Fuck!" As the door shut, I wasn't paying attention and my cigarette had burnt down to my fingertips. I knew they were after me even before I met Y/N. I should've pushed him away sooner. It was difficult to hear the lack of care in his voice. I wanted him back, maybe keeping him by my side was the best choice, is it too late?
