The moonlight catches on her now pale face. I nearly gasp. I had thought she died. Apparently Count Dracula had other plans. The man with black hair snarls. "We don't need her!" He says. "We need the girl!" The assistant hisses at him. Within two seconds she has him in a headlock. On twitch of her muscle could break his neck. The younger boy stays by the trees. He whimpers like a lost puppy. "Shut up!" The vampire says. He gently walks over to the man with black hair. "Do not use that tone with me. If you do so my apprentice's fingers may just accidentally slip." The assistant tightens her hold a little better on his head.

"Alright, let me up." The man says. She lets go and the man stands up. He rubs his neck a little bit. "When will you have her?" The man asks. The vampire lifts his head up and closes his eyes. He opens them again and the blood red pupils seem to be staring at me. His eyes linger slightly then look back down to the werewolf. "Soon," he whispers. "I sense she is near here." The werewolf nods. "We meet again, south on the compass, twenty miles from the border." The vampire nods. The wolf is about to turn when the vampire stops him.

"Wait." He says. The man turns around to look at the vampire. "Do you have what I require?" He asks. The werewolf nods and walks a little bit into the woods. The younger boy follows. He stays in my sights though and I watch as his whole body shudders as if he is having a spasm. I watch him do the earlier transformation in reverse. Soon the man and boy are gone, and in their place stand two big wolves.

The vampire and his apprentice stand in the moonlit circle alone. "What do we do now?" She asks him. "We find the girl." He replies. He does a quick scan in the trees, but doesn't see me. "The young one says he smelled angel. Everyone knows that the young ones have the best sense of smell. Maybe she is nearby, in a ten mile radius or so." He says. She nods. "Which way do you think she went?" She asks. The vampire shrugs and starts heading deeper into the forest. "Stupid Angel probably went in a straight line even though the city lies to the set. Both of the vampires dart off into the opposite direction of the wolves.

I let myself breathe a little. "The set?" I think. I look up at the moon and try  to close my eyes but I can't sleep. I silently slid out of the tree and try to figure out what the set is. The vampires are not going the right direction, because they said to not go straight. Maybe it had something to do with the sun... A lot of people tell time and direction from the sun, right? I look up at the sky. Where had the sun risen? Had I even been outside? No, so where had the sun set. All of a sudden the pieces click into place in my mind.

"Sun SET." I whisper under my breath. It had set to my left so I continue in that direction. It would involve me leaving the small trail though. I weigh my options. I would probably have a better chance of making it if I went through the trail. But then again the vampire went down the trail, and the wolves went the other way. There might be animals in the forest. But it may be a shortcut.

I scour through the bushes looking for a sharp rock. I find one and a few branches and get to work. Soon I had five sharp branches that I could use as some sort of weak defense. "It's better than nothing," I think. I start walking into the tangles of roots and bushes, and who knows what. I use one branch as a walking stick, and the other to clear my way, some what. I have to walk because I will twist an ankle for sure if I run in this jungle of roots.

An hour later I find myself near another small path. I ditch my walking stick, who's point has dulled to a bump. I throw it aside and start running down the trail, with four sticks in hand. It feels so good to be running again! Finally I don't have to watch for snakes to throw aside or big bugs. I shudder and try to forget them.

Soon I find myself face-to-face with a hill. I run up it and reach the top in under five seconds. I reach the top and look out on the horizon. I can see a city with glowing lights and giant gate. The whole city is surrounded by what seems like a giant fence. I start to walk down the hill when a blood-curdling sight stops me in my tracks.
