My eyes slowly open. I'm hooked up to an IV and I am laying on my stomach. I groan. I try to lay on my back, but two wings get in my way. I nearly forgot that I was an angel. My back is slightly sore. I close my eyes and try to remember what happened. The doctor injected me with blood then I changed. It was Hope's blood. I hear footsteps near my feet. I groan to get the persons attention. The footsteps top. I groan again, a little louder this time. Something clatters to the ground. I hear the sound of glass shattering. "Oh my god." I hear a voice whisper. "Doctor Hyna! Doctor Hyna!" The voice screeches.More footsteps.
"What?" says an irritated old voice. "She's awake." The female voice says. The doctor comes to me and bends down to look at me. His face is old and wrinkly now. He looks to be about 80. "Ah. So you did make it. Hope was convinced you would." I prop myself up on my elbows then slowly sit up. "What year is it?" I ask quietly. Doctor Hyna looks at me and sighs. "2070." He whispers. "Oh my god." I whisper. I had been in a coma for 57 years. "Happy 73rd birthday Angela." He says with a chuckle. "Don't worry. You don't look a day over 16."
I swing my legs over the side and my vision balances a little. "Sit down Angela. You aren't ready to walk yet." The female nurse says. She grabs at my wrist. "That's not a great idea." I say. I grab her wrist and squeeze it slightly. I feel her bones crush slightly under my grasp. She yelps out in pain and I let go. The nurse tends to her wrist and I stumble out of bed. I stand on my feet and flex my back. My wings slightly flap. I tighten my back muscles and my wings fold in. I feel stable enough that I start running towards the hallway. I look to my left and see a door with a symbol on it. I vaguely remember it from when I was human.
Now my vision is so heightened it feels as though there was a cloud shrouding my vision from when I was human. I remember what the symbol represented. It meant that it was a girls bathroom. I push the door and it swings open, revealing a spectacular bathroom. To my left there were mirrors that seemed to stretch up to the sky. Or at least 30 feet up, which is where the ceiling started. I turn to the mirrors. Doctor Hyna was right, I looked 16. I walk out of the bathroom and walk over to Doctor Hyna. He is attending the wounded nurse, who's hand is no longer broken. Apparently angels heal fast too. "Doctor Hyna. Where is Hope?" I ask slowly not really wanting to know the answer. Doctor Hyna just continued to pay attention at the nurse.
"Oh, I nearly forgot about her. I haven't seen her in 30 years." He says nonchalantly. "Around the time that you were awakened she was at the optimal age to do an immortality treatment. Once your 21-31 you can do it too." He turns around and looks at me. "Why didin't you?" I asked him. He gives me a smile and says, "People are meant to die for a reason. I believe that angels are a more advanced human. So why shouldn't we die?" I open my mouth to argue with him, but he says, "That was my choice. You'll make yours in 5 years. Don't worry it'll fly by." He starts laughing and says "Literally." "I want to talk to Hope. Where is she?" I say, not laughing. He points to the door, referring to the assistant. "She'll lead you to Hope. If you're not such a rebel and stay with her, maybe you'll see her today." He says. I walk over to the assistant. "I want to see Hope." She nods and points to my wings. "Can you fly yet?" She asks me in a sweet tone. I shake my head and she leads me out of the door.
When I walk outside of the door I look out at a lobby. Two sick patients await help, one for a broken wing and the other for a finger which was bending in the wrong way. The nurse followed us and ran into the lobby. She walked over to the second one. She pushes the finger into place and the angel groans. She tells him to hold it there for five minutes and then it'll be fixed. Then she rushes the one with the broken wing into the clinic. The assistant keeps walking and opens the door.
Sunlight pours in and grass tickles my bare feet. I stretch out my arms and soak in the sun not unlike a cat. I stay there for what feels like five minutes. When I open my eyes again the assistant has already passed me. She kept walking and I start yelling. "Wait Up! I'm still back here!" The nurse just chuckles and yells back "Just run!" I stare at her tall figure, walking away quickly. She doesn't even slow down. Even though I know that I will never catch up, I run anyway. Suddenly the world shifts around me at lightning speed. Figures blur as they zoom by me. I reach her in jaw-dropping speed. I even over score and fall in the gravel road she was walking on.
