Pitch black surrounds me. I stretch my hands out in front of me, but I can't. My body stays still, paralyzed. My heart pounds. It feels as though my chest weighs a thousand tons and I struggle to breath. The darkness compacts around me. I breath harder, my chest pumping violently. I can't breathe! "Where am I?" I think desperatly. The weight becomes unbearable. I hear a scream pierce my ears and echo in the darkness. It takes me a second to realize that I am screaming. I take one final breath and let the darkness envolpe me, leaving me in nothing.
A low tone beeps in my ear. It stays steady and constant, never once wavering. Somehow it comforts me. Finally for once in my life there is a constant, something that stays the same. Even though that sound won't last forever, at least for the time being it's comforting. I let myself give a small smile and let out a small sigh. I fake sleep and listen to sound of the beeping.
I hear a door slid open to my right. I quickly distingish Hope's voice as the raised one. "What were you thinking!" She gasps at him. I let my smile slip into its usual scowl. "You can't just take out a girl whenever you feel like it!" She screams, her voice slowly escalating. "Shh. You'll wake her." The man she was arguing at says. "IF she ever wakes up! For all we know your little medicine could have been too much for her!" She says. "No it wasn't! She is stable isn't she?" The man says in an irritated voice.
"The only reason you knocked her out in the first place is because you're scared!" Hope says loudly. "Scared of what?" The man says with a louder voice. "Scared of what she can do! Scared of her power! If anyone is going to be afraid of her it's going to be you!" She says forcefully. "I am not scared of a little girl!" He yells. "Well apparently you are if you can't let her into the city due to "safety hazards!" If she is a little girl then why is she in the clinic instead of in the city?" She rebuttles. "I was just being safe! I need to keep her safe!" He yells. "Well it doesn't seem very safe to knock her out like that!" She says loudly. "It was the safest thing I could do in her circumstances, Hope!" He hisses. "Well this will be reported to the council. You can count on it!" Hope yells.
Stilletos clack on the floor as Hope makes her way to me. I let out a sigh and Hope catches on. She kneels down next to my bed and puts a hand on my cheek. "Wake up." she whispers. "It's okay." SHe says so quietly that I am the only person who could've heard. I blink my eyes a few times and see Hope's face looming over mine. She gives me a reassuring smile and stands up. I sit up on my bed with a little difficulty.
I look around the room. The man who was talking is short but has a muscular body. He has a thick moustache. His glasses are askew and his face is red from arguing with Hope. He wears a brown suit and carries a small briefcase. He acnoledges me with a shy smile and looks at Hope. He pats down his mousy hair and fixes his glasses. He turns to walk out of the building and I spot two slits in the back, for his wings. He walks out of the building in a hurried pace and nearly drops his suitcase on the turn.
Hope looks back to me. "Are you alright? I am so sorry about that. They don't have a right to do that. They shou-" I cut her off. "It's fine. I'm fine, really." I stand up and balance on my feet. "See good as new." I stretch out my wings and flutter them a little. Hope brings her out too. Hers are more of an ivory color while mine is pale white. It reminds me of a time when I was human when it would snow. I would always be amazed at the little flakes slowly drifting down the sky and settling on the ground.
"So," Hope says, inturuppting my dream. "Let's get moving!" She start walking out of the cinic. "First order of buisiness. Flying lessons." She says with a grin. The door slids open and I am once again struck by the beauty of the city. Towering skyscrapers made of reflective material consisting of white, silver, and even gold. Giant windows allow people to look out upon the city from the comfort of their homes. Streets made of ancient cobblestone mark walkways through out the city.
