Chapter Seven: Of Friends, Hairspray And Radio Towers
(Suzie, Do You Copy?, Pt. 2)

The sound of David Bowie's voice filled the air of Cami's bedroom as Alistair and Cami sang along to Heroes via hairbrush mics in the middle of her room, belting out to each other, "Oh, we can be heroes, just for one day!"
Alistair shared a grin with his best friend as it went instrumental for a couple seconds before Bowie sang again and Cami pointed to Alistair as she sang, "I, I will be king!"
"And you, you will be queen!" Alistair sang right back, the grin so wide it almost hurt but Alistair didn't care as together, he and Cami sang, "Though nothing will drive them away! We can be heroes, just for one day! Oh, we can be us, just for one day!"
Then it was Cami singing the next verse solo, her voice meshing with Bowie's and amazing Alistair yet again at how good she sounded, her voice ringing out so clear and powerful. As the verse came to its end, she sent him a cheeky grin as she sang, "And we kissed, as though nothing could fall!"
That was Alistair's cue to jump back in, the duo singing together, "And the shame, was on the other side! Oh we can beat them, for ever and ever! Then we could be heroes, just for one day!"
With grins on their faces and hairbrush mics to their mouths, the two best friends sang with all their hearts, "We can be heroes! We can be heroes! Oh, we can be heroes! Just for one day! We can be heroes!"
Looking at each other, they sang just a tad quieter, "We're nothing, and nothing will help us. Maybe we're lying, then you better not stay. But we could be safer, just for one day."
And then, they were belting it out at the top of their lungs again, heads tipped and their improvised microphones as they sang, "Oh-oh-oh-ohh, oh-oh-oh, ohh, just for one day!"
With that, the song ended and it ticked over into Sons of the Silent Age as Cami and Alistair panted, regaining their breaths and letting their voices recover, still grinning.
"Dios, that was so fun!" Cami exclaimed, flopping back onto her bed with a laugh. Alistair joined her, a laugh bubbling out of him as well, the hairbrushes they'd sung into abandoned as they stared up at the ceiling and the fan whirring above them as the song kept playing from the stereo, David Bowie singing solo without their accompaniment.
"I know, right?" Alistair said, cheeks hurting from how much he was smiling and laughing. He looked over to his best friend before sitting up and adding, "And you sounded great!"
Cami smiled as she too sat up, nudging Alistair as she said, "I'm not that great."
"Are you kidding? You're fantastic!" Alistair exclaimed. "You sang that better than Bowie!"
