A dark medium sized woman threw the door open looking agitated "how can I help.... She started only to stop when saw mama's face " Treasure! What a pleasant surprise! I wasn't expecting to see you so soon" she added pulling mama in for a half hug, and a few back rubs for me "come in" she added, we trudged in a short walkway that led to a living area.
I sat beside mama on a three sitter chair drinking in my surrounding, the living room consist of a small television mounted on a stool, a center table and four chairs, one three sitter, one two sitter and two one sitters all covered with white lace coverings for aesthetics I guess, it looked clean and homey and from where I was sitting it looked like a two bedroom apartment.
"How was your journey? And how is everyone back home?" Aunt Mary asked as she sat opposite mama, "we give thanks to God" mama responded, "how is your husband and the kids doing?" She asked, before mama could give her a response, she hollered "Nancy come get their things" towards the direction I took to be the bedroom, and a young petite girl around my age, who i assume is her daughter because of the striking resemblance came in to get our bags after exchanging pleasantries with us, Nancy went in and came back after a short while with food and refreshments that she placed on the table complacently with an almost inaudible "help yourselves" she threw before leaving.
After what felt like hours of small talks and catching up aunt Mary gave us a tour of the house just so we know where everything is, and finally gave us space to eat and freshen up.
It was around 8 pm when we finished, and we found our way back to the living room, where we perched on a couch to watch tv with the family who apparently were waiting for their dad to get home, mama and aunt Mary some how continued from they stopped with their conversations, and I tried starting one with aunt Mary's kids but they don't seem to be interested so I didn't push it.
I was struggling to keep my eyes open because I was tired and i frankly couldn't care what was airing, all I wanted to do was sleep, but I don't know what the sleeping arrangements were or where we would be sleeping and they didn't offer any explanation too, in the midst of the battle to keep my eyelids apart, aunt Mary's husband came in.
Her husband is a tall fit man, who looks to be in his late forties and seems to have a permanent grin on his face a contrast to his wife.
His grin blossomed into a full blown smile when he saw mama, "it's been ages treasure! how have you been?" he enveloped mama in a big hug, "it's nice to see you, is that Trish? He walked towards me, "Kids sure grow up fast these days, last time I saw you, you were a toddler, not even up to my thighs" he joked as he enveloped me in a warm hug too, I smiled awkwardly because I do not know what to say that, he sat down and asked that his food be brought to him first, he talked and ate at the same time catching up with mama, it was then we realized aunt Mary never mentioned we were coming over, mama told him why we came to Sal city, and he assured us that although his house isn't as conducive as we would like it to be, but we are welcomed to stay for as long as we want.I think I slept off as some point, because mama woke up and told me to go lie down with her on a makeshift bed on the floor in the living room, too tired to do anything I moved to the floor and dozed off.
