"Well we seem to be in quite the pickle"

Boqin says standing by his school bus, rugby uniform exchanged for a maroon sweater and black sweat pants. He had taken a shower and his hair was still slightly damp, looking less fluffy than usual.

The match had ended in a draw, much to Cedric's dismay, Ramonna was still in the process of trying to console him.

"It seems so"

"I am curious though, why?" I ask pulling my buzzing phone out of my pocket and scrolling through the 5 horseman group chat that was riddled with angry cat stickers and Cora asking where I was and why I missed her performance.

"Why what", Boqin asks with his hands in his pockets.

"Last time we hung out was last year, all of a sudden you want to be together for a whole month, I'm not buying it"

"Always so paranoid Cervine, is it so hard to believe that I missed you?"

"Yes"

He lets out a nervous laugh and takes a step toward me. He places his right hand on my shoulder.

"I'm just trying to get to know you, is that so bad?"

"You really have no idea, huh? And here I thought you were all-knowing" He lets out a laugh and brings his hands together in a loud clap.

"Ok, what about this, in exchange for some very juicy info about you, you officially become my girlfriend?" He sends me a bright smile and all I can do is scoff at him.

"How about this, you tell me what you know and I tell you why your grandfather left you nothing in his will, I know you've always wondered what you did wrong" He stiffens at my words and drops his smile.

"Ah yes, one of your famous background checks, I thought you were joking" I shrug in response.

He looks away from me and takes a deep breath.

"Fine"

"You go first"

"You are perpetually paranoid"

"I have my reasons" I motion for him to say what he has to.

"You've been receiving proposal letters since you were ten maybe even earlier, your mother just hasn't told you about them"

"Huh, what kind of proposals?"

"The marriage kind, I'm in the running and I wouldn't mind us tying the knot in the future, we do get along great, right?"

Instead of answering his question, I tell him his story.

"Your grandfather caught you pulling on the tail of his favorite cat when you were thirteen, and has hated you ever since"

"Seriously?"

"Seriously"

"That can't be –

A sudden dizzy spell has me unsteady on my feet. Not now, not here.
