TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of suicide
Thanks to the damn bet, my past flings had been accosting me at every chance they could get, either trying to seduce me and make me nut or convince me to give them a chance, Casper had even gone as far as to sneak into my dorm room and present himself naked in my shower, I suspect that Cora had given him the passcode to our door.
There had to be something in the water.
This was the first time in weeks I could actually be by myself and not have to worry about dodging a determined horny teenager. Now that I had time to actually think, my mother and Cora's birthdays were coming up. I already had my mother's gift waiting for her at home, but Cora was a special case.
I placed my feet on the black vent in front of me as I took a long sip of my banana milk, courtesy of Mr. Plantor, the librarian. We had reached an unspoken agreement, in exchange for a case of my father's fancy French cigars at the start of the term I could come up to the roof any time I wanted for as long as I wanted and he'd allow me to rummage through the staff fridge in the back room.
I flipped the page of my bible thick novel. I rarely have the time to read an actual book, it's times like this when I feel my most relaxed when I don't have to think as much.
It was about a woman who gets transported into different worlds as someone new every time she dies, the twist is that the worlds are from her wide collection of books she had in her original life, where she died in a fire. They ranged from fantasy to historical dramas and everything in between.
She is currently running away from a dragon who thinks she stole one of his scales while he was sleeping.
"Stop running you thief, I will have your head!"
I loud roar echoed throughout the forest as Mabel continued to run for her life, literally.
"I did not steal your crusty ass scale you overgrown lizard, so how about no!"
Her rash words were met with another furious roar, realistically her chances of out-running a flying dragon were very low, which is why she did not take any of the temperamental beast's scales, even though in the Trusitos region dragon scales were worth millions of carets.
All of a sudden a loud war cry was heard as a man in medieval armor appeared from nowhere with his large sword raised and ready to defend the helpless maiden.
"Get behind me milady—
"Yes protect me quick!"
Mable did not miss a beat as she quickly hid behind the sudden knight. The man straightened his posture and the dragon landed in front of him.
The monster looked at the puny human in front of him and let out a gargled laugh. The night immediately charged the laughing beast stabbing it in its tender thigh, causing it to let out a roar.
Seeing this as her opportunity Mable burst into a sprint towards the village knowing that the wards around it would keep her safe from the beast.
"Sorry knight dude, just in case you get turned into a kebab, thanks for the distraction!"
Just like that, she was gone. The knight and dragon both stared stupidly at where she had stood before silently, the battle to the death forgotten.
