Regenia wasn't expecting those words as she quickly pulled away. On the other hand, Giuseppe was surprised by her action as she nodded and swiftly ran for her shoes and out the door. She knew she had told herself she was in love but didn't believe Giu would love her back despite his mother's words. For some reason, she didn't think Giuseppe was capable of loving someone... she didn't think she was capable of someone to love her.

It was one of Regenia's fears that she would fuck up her life. Fall for someone's trick and end up stuck for life. Yes, she wanted this man to love her. She didn't want him to feel he was forced to. Regenia's first impression of Giuseppe was that he was a man who loved women and knew how to get what he wanted. She was something he wanted, and Genia fell right into his trap. How dumb could she be? She should have known this was all about getting into the twenty-six-year-old virgin's pants. This was why she chose this path so that men couldn't use her for her body.

"REGENIA!"

She quickly tried to walk away again, but this time Giuseppe's strong arms wrapped around her, pulling her against his chest. Regenia struggled against him for a moment, but he refused to let go as he did something that surprised her. Giuseppe lifted her from the ground as if she weighed nothing. Regenia wasn't that big, but she wasn't that small either, and since she had gotten to Italy, she had lost more weight than she wanted to. "Giuseppe...."

"I tell you I love you, and you run. What is that? I'm not asking for anything in return, Regenia. If you don't feel the same way, I completely understand Uccellino, but we must learn to use our words." He spoke softly, carrying her back toward the house. Regenia could see his words were true, but her actions threw the man off.

"The last time someone told me he loved me, he was working for the enemy, and I was a bet. Your love confession was random, and I panicked. I'm sorry, w-we can go back to make our wine...."

"I have something else better planned, and our feet are covered in grass and dirt. I don't think that would be wise." He chuckled, kissing the side of her head and walking them into their new home. Normally Giuseppe would make a fuss about tracking dirt into the house today and went straight to the bathroom, sitting Regenia on the edge of a huge tub. Both were soaked from the rain, and Regenia was freezing. Decembers in New York were the worst, but the rain made it feel worse in Italy. However, she watched the man as he moved about the bathroom placing different salts and oils in the running tub before giving his attention to her. "Take off your clothes and relax. I will meet you back in your bedroom in an hour," and with that, he disappeared without giving Regenia a chance to speak.

Did she upset him?

Maybe he was looking for her to say it back. Regenia loved him but thought she would be the one to make a fool out of herself first. Or Giuseppe didn't mean to let it slip. If that was the case, it was too late to take it back, and Regenia would have to woman up and say it back. Why was this so fucking hard for her? It is why she needed her parents. They would steer her in the right direction. They always steered her in the right direction. What was she to do without them? She thought as she stepped into the tub sitting when her mind flashed back to her father's last words. Now Regenia knew what she had to do.
