i took the letter with me and left my office. if no one knew what it was trying to say, chances are that staying in the office to try to crack the message would be futile. might as well take a small walk around or something in the meantime.
trying to clear my mind, i took my car out for a spin in downtown seoul, where the streets were bustling with activities. the area was very crowded, with many young couples as well as families on the streets, having fun with each other.
sometimes, i wish i could be like them as well, being carefree even just for a while. as idols, you have people monitoring your every action at all times, and one wrong move can turn your career into a living hell.
as i stopped my car at a red light, i saw street vendors and performers lining up the entire street. some were selling food, others selling souvenirs and even some of them are performing various tricks or dances.
my eyes swept across the entire street, but stopped at a particular street performer. he was a middle-aged man, who was attracting people with his fire. by adding various chemicals into the flame, he managed to create flames of different colour. blue, red, green, purple, you name it.
with his "magic tricks", he managed to attract many people to stop and admire his tricks, also earning him loud applause from the passers-by and some money from them. finally, he ended his showcase by spraying some copper powder into a strong flame. a large blue flame then appeared, earning even more applause.
just then, the radio station started reporting on the hourly news.
"for this hour, we report that a small building in seoul has been burned down from a fire. huge flames were seen emerging from the building, with the fire department being called in to put out the fire. fortunately, there was no one in the building when the fire occurred, thus there are no injuries or deaths recorded. preliminary investigations by the police have ruled out short circuit as the cause of the fire, due to the fact that the flames were blue in colour. a spokesperson from the police department has told us that this incident was likely caused by an arsonist, due to the unnatural colour of the flames. police investigations are ongoing."
"so beautiful, so enthralling, yet so mysterious. such an exquisite beauty, but hides its ability to burn." i was so fascinated by the blue flame that i did not realise the traffic light had turned green, but i was not moving. out of annoyance, the car behind me honked at me, snapping me out of my thoughts as i revved up the car and sped up to catch up with the cars in front of me.
as the car dipped slightly to the back as i revved it, the note which i had placed on the dashboard accidentally fell onto the floor. when i reached another red light, i picked up the note and was about to put it back onto the dashboard when the words on it got my attention once again.
"beware of the ones you love, for they would turn against u.
even as friends,
the lack of loyalty and trust
might leave you empty-handed."
all of a sudden, my mind became very clear after the incident i witnessed just now.
the middle-aged man creating a blue flame.
the building that caught fire being burned down by blue flames.
me falling ill after drinking water from blue flame.
as if on cue, the radio started playing blue flame by lesserafim.
i looked at the letter once again.
"beware of the ones you love, for they would turn against u.
even as friends,
the lack of loyalty and trust
might leave you empty-handed."

the pieces began to piece itself like a jigsaw puzzle and the dots started to connect. this was a sign.
"blue flame"
whatever this company or operation is about, i am one step closer to finding out and destroying it for good.
