Charlie's POV
Ella, Clayton and I had played a game of monopoly as we waited for Nora to return with soup and, as per my request, a bottle of honey.
Afterwards, they had each gone home and left me on my own.
The tv that hung from the ceiling didn't work, so watching something to ease my boredom was not a viable option, which sucked. I had forgotten to ask Nora to bring my phone, and since visiting hours were now over, I had to wait until the morning to check up on my social media.
Okay, that's a lie.. I don't care about social media.
I just wanted to see if Ace had texted, or called, or if his name even appeared on my screen at all.
A yawn escaped me as I stretched.
How on earth did the human race survive without television and mobile devices?
Normally when I am this bored I would just pull out my phone and scroll through TikTok.
Even listening to music would be better than the sound of next door's heart monitor beating. I get that it's to make sure the nurses can hear, but it's annoying, no offence to the patient next door. Get well soon!
My mind went back to one person.
Why didn't he show up?
Maybe he was busy?
Maybe we're over?
My mind was all about Ace, right up until the moment that I had finally fallen asleep.
Ryan's POV
"I hope Charlie is okay." I say, opening a can of cola as I took a seat next to Tom on the couch.
Ella's parents were visiting her grandmother for a few days, so Clayton, Tom and I decided to spend the night at her place.
"Same, poor dude." Tom says.
"It was so sad seeing him in there, even sadder when he asked about Ace." Ella frowned just thinking about it.
"Has Ace still not talked to him?" Tom wondered.
"Nope." Clayton said.
"I warned that asshole about hurting Charlie. I swear to all that is holy that I will cut his dick off with a chainsaw and shove it in a blender." Ella fumed from her place on the other side of Tom.
"Oh my god." Tom put a hand to his head.
"Yuck, I did not need that image put into my brain." Clayton groaned, rubbing his eyes. "I can't unimagine it now."
If I am being totally honest, Ella definitely scared the hell out of me. Remind me to never get on her bad side.
Whatever had happened between Ace and Charlie must have been bad if Ace still hasn't seen him.
In my pocket, my phone vibrated twice.
I pull it out and read over the text from Isaiah.
Damn, I hope he's okay. I like that little guy.
By 'little guy', he's referring to Charlie. I had informed Isaiah about Charlie's hospitalisation after he asked me what I was doing today. He had texted me earlier asking if I was free to hang out, to which Ella assumed we were a thing.
We weren't.
Isaiah seemed like a really great guy, but i just don't think he's interested.
"This summer was not what I expected it would be." Ella says.
"I agree." Clayton added.
"We were supposed to have the best time of our young lives! But instead, it was a total shit show."
I get what she's saying.
When I was first invited along to vacation at the Caldwell's Beach House in Los Angeles, I was stoked as hell. I thought in my head that it was the perfect destination to spend the summer. I'm not saying it was completely horrible, but it wasn't as great as I had expected. Then again, if we hadn't gone on vacation, I probably would have spent the summer in Florida with my grandparents. Who wants to spend the summer in Florida?
Isaiah had sent another text.
Wyd?
Not much, chillin with my mates. I responded. What about you?
Trying to find something to watch on Netflix 😩
I chuckled as I read his text.
You should watch this show called The End of the F...ing World. I texted.
What's it about?
I began typing. No spoilers, just watch it.
Okay, I'll check it out 😊
I couldn't help but smile as I returned my phone to the pocket of my pants.
Charlie's POV
I woke up sweating with the urge to relieve myself.
Is there a heater on or something?
Do they even have heaters in hospitals?
It should not be this hot!
I sat upright, groaning as a wave of nausea overcame me. My entire respiratory system was sore with a scratchy sensation.
I'm sure everyone on the planet can agree when I say this, but I hated being sick! It was the worst feeling.
I twisted my body to the right, dragging my legs over the edge of the bed and setting them on the cold harsh floor that made me flinch when it came into contact with my skin.
I should have worn socks.
With my feet on the ground, I hunched my body over. My elbows stood firmly on my knees, supporting my head as I rested it in my hands.
I inhaled a deep breath and prepared myself to stand up and traipse towards the bathroom.
That's when I saw him, slouched in the chair by the window, sleeping.
My heart tumbled over in my chest.
I couldn't believe that he was here...
Ace was actually here...
He came.
Moonlight crept through the shutters on the window, causing his hair to gleam beneath the silver beam. The position he was in looked awfully uncomfortable, yet he looked effortlessly enchanting.
How long had he been there?
Despite the bladder-pinching urge to use the toilet, I couldn't help but sit there and gaze at him.
I had totally forgotten all about how shitty he had treated me, well, mostly.
He looked so cute.
Quietly, I rose from my place on the bed and went to use the restroom.
After I had finally relieved myself, I returned to my bed, looking over at the chair to make sure i hadn't been hallucinating earlier.
He was still here...
