I sat across Garreth at a cute little cafe near the grounds of the castle, we have been going out on dates for about a month now. He's stolen a few kisses and caused some butterflies, but, there isn't a label on what we are. It hasn't been a question. Every time I think he's going to ask, the opportunity passes.I idly stirred my soup, my free hand held up my head. It's been a month, maybe he just likes the attention or doesn't want to commit. Is there someone else? Is he just stringing me along for the ride? A dozen thoughts ran through my mind, I don't want to ask my questions, I don't want to hurt my own feelings. Nor do I think I should ask...should I?
Garreth's eyes slowly fell on me as I sat across the table. He smiled softly as he reached over and placed his hand on mine, not saying anything but looking into my eyes for just a moment to see what my reaction might be to his touch.
My eyes met his for a moment, I gave him a small smile and then returned to my soup.
He noticed my distance.
"Am I doing something wrong?" He asked softly. There was a slight hint of worry and concern in his voice, that he might be doing something to upset me. He was blunt with his question, it's only fair I do the same with my answer. I let out a deep sigh and met his eyes.
"What are your intentions with me? We've been going out this past month, you've stolen a kiss or two...but that's about it." I was cautious with my words and tone. It was soft and sweet, but I couldn't hide the worry and anxiety I was feeling.
His expression softened and changed instantly as he tried to read my face. I couldn't hide the worry, disappointment, and sadness from my eyes. I never had a poker face. His face showed only love and kindness as he looked deeply into my eyes. He moved his hand to the space of my chin and lifted my face to meet his.
"The truth is that I care about you. More than I've ever cared about anyone before." He said with a warm, loving, sincere expression on his face.
"I care about you too. I just want to know what we are, what your intentions are. I get labels are lame but, I just don't want to be strung along." I crinkled my brows worried.
He lifted his hand to gently brush against my cheek, his expression full of genuine care and concern. His voice was warm and comforting as he spoke.
"Amara, I know what this looks like from your view. And I understand why you would be uncertain about what we are. But I can honestly and truly say that you mean the absolute world to me, and the last thing I would ever want is to hurt you." I can hear the sincerity and truth in his voice.
"I hear you." I took a deep breath. "I really like you, and I don't want to get my hopes up if there isn't a plan to progress our relationship more."
His face turned red, and a nervous and excited feeling flowed through him as he considered his next few words. He wanted to make sure he said them right.
"Ama...Will you be my girlfriend?" He said, his voice soft and full of a nervous mix of happiness, excitement, and fear. He waited a moment for my response, clearly holding his breath because he was so nervous. His hand was still on my cheek, and he has a smile on his face.
I can't help but smile like a fool. "I was starting to think you would never ask, yes!"
He was overcome with a surge of happiness as the smile he was wearing grows to an incredibly warm and loving one. He leaned over the table and pulled me closer to him in one movement.
His lips met mine in a warm, sweet kiss. It was clear that he's never been this happy in his entire life.
