Becoming Vampire

Epilogue

Jeff is watching his soulmate getting ready for the hunt. He's hoping they'll get a nice tasty feed, it's going to be Bible's 150th birthday in a few hours  and it would be a great way to start the celebrations.

Jeff likes this time and place. Bible and him have been together living as "roommates" for the last couple of centuries, moving from one place to another, being each other's home.

He approaches Bible to help him tie his cravat and finishes it neatly inserting a pin ended in a big grey pearl he's just taken from his pocket.

- Happy birthday, my love - he whispers on Bible's ear.

Bible examines the pearl and a slow smile forms in his lips. He sometimes misses being able to look in a mirror. He looks at himself through Jeff's eyes, instead.

Jeff is breathtaking as usual. He is wearing a burgundy jacket made of velvet and a ruffled shirt. His pink cravat is decorated with a medium size red ruby that Bible gave him to celebrate their 75th anniversary. Seeing Jeff wearing it makes Bible happy and proud.

Bible feels he's going to struggle with his strong possessive feelings once they get out there, since both mortal men and women, male and female vampires, and even incubus and succubus, they are all attracted to Jeff.

He doesn't know why he's been so lucky to be Jeff's chosen one.

They put their top hats on and get out in the cold wintry London night. The air smells like snow is about to fall. They take a carriage to their destination, a watering hole (or pub) where young gentlemen gather to drink and gamble.

They get some drinks, for Jeff a glass of pale ale, for Bible, a strong Port wine, and scan their surroundings in search of a victim.

They communicate in their minds, their understanding after two  centuries is so precise that they don't need words to formulate a plan and carry it on.

Jeff approaches the strong young man in his early twenties and starts talking to him. Bible bites his bottom lip in annoyance, his jealousy making its appearance, he can't help it.

Jeff convinces the guy to go outside and Bible follows them. They offer the young man a ride in their carriage, which he accepts since he's gambled all his pocket money.

They seat one at each side of the young man, who is taller than them and quite muscular. When they are a few minutes away from the pub, Jeff makes a sudden move, grabbing the guy's chin with supernatural strength that stuns the victim, while Bible starts feeding on his neck, piercing it cleanly with his sharp fangs.

Bible is not greedy, after less than a full minute he lets Jeff have a go.

They get enough blood to feel energised and satisfied but they don't kill him. They knock the door to ask the driver to stop, descend the carriage and pay him to look after the drunk person inside until he wakes up.

They decide to walk back home. The streets are deserted and Jeff tries to hold Bible's hand.

- I remember when we first met met, - says Jeff

Then he starts sending images to Bible, of how he found Bible when he
had just become a vampire. He was weak and didn't know how to feed properly, or how to hide, or how to kiss...

Bible starts thinking - again - he's not worthy of Jeff.

Jeff makes him stop.

- Don't speak like that of yourself, Bible,you were already amazing, just not used to this immortal body.

Bible's hand gives Jeff's a squeeze when he heard these words.

- You know it's your birthday, Bible, do you have any wish?

Bible considers the question for some time, walking side by side with Jeff in silence.

- I don't have anything I wish for. I'm happy the way things are with you.

He stops under the dark moon shadow of a tree and gives Jeff a hug. I love you.

Jeff returns the hug, he can swear his undead heart is beating wildly in his chest.

Then suddenly big white snow flakes start falling silently all around them. Bible pulls Jeff even closer, kissing his hair.

- Maybe move to a warmer country?
