Conflicts and Thunderstorms

Just as you agreed to, you waited for Hanma on the rooftop of the apartment complex.

You sat crisscrossed on the cold concrete, lazily scrolling on your phone as you waited for your neighbor to join you.

Of course, after agreeing, you had your doubts that he would show up on time. The man didn't seem like the type to be punctual at all.

However, you had hoped he would at least put in some effort. After all, he was the one that asked you to meet him up here. God knows the reason why. You sighed dejectedly as you tossed your phone in your lap.

It's already 11 PM.

Just what the hell is taking him so long???

It was annoying. You looked stupid and felt like it too. Was this a game too him? Did he take you for a fool?

You scoffed, shaking your head.

Snatching your phone up from your lap, you opened your messages:

You: Hey! What the hell is taking so long?

No response

You: Honestly, do you think this is funny? It's freezing out here and you haven't said a word to me yet.

You chewed on your lip for a bit, thinking what else could grab his attention.

Then, like lightning, the idea dawned on you: what if he was hurt?

He's a pain, obviously. And troublesome one at that. But what if trouble is what's keeping him from answering you?

Now you were getting nervous.

BOOM!

The sudden sound of thunder rung in your ears causing the unconscious jolt of your bones as a flash of bright light streaked across your eyes. Small droplets stained your dull blue jeans. You look up and notice the dark grey clouds forming in the once-lit blue sky.

Great! Just. Fucking. Great!

It seemed as if the world knew your conflicting feelings and decided to make artwork out of them and painted them on an incoming thunderstorm for the world to see. Maybe for Hanna to see, too.

Huffing, you quickly get up from your cross-legged position and bolt towards the exit, mentally cursing Hanma all the way down the flights of stairs leading to the third floor.

A few hours later....

Its been a while since you had texted Hanma and you have yet to hear a response from him. Did he stand you up on purpose? Was this some sort of joke that he thought was funny? Because it certainly seemed so, and you definitely weren't laughing.

But, you weren't complaining either.

The familiar bitterness of disappointment stuck with your gut, but deep down, there was a numbness of desensitization that made you ignore it.

It's not like things like this were new to you. Getting stood up, being left out...it was always the same in your life. That's why your world wasn't so full of color. It was always in shades of grey.

You sighed, slumping as you let yourself become engulfed in the soft cushions of your couch where you sat surrounded with your favorite comforter with Midnight snuggling next to your thigh.

The soft pitter-patter of rain against your window filled the somewhat lonely void of your apartment.

I'm such an idiot. You thought, gritting your teeth as you balled your fists tightly around the edges of your blanket.
