"Jax, about earlier."

My eyes widened, but I kept looking down at my hands in my lap. I heard Eli gulp. What was he holding in? What did he want to tell me? Earlier?

"I didn't know what else to do. I'm sorry." He fidgeted with his fingers in his lap. I looked over at him slowly. "What are you talking about?" I whispered. He looked over at me.

His skin itched and he was trying so hard not to itch it. "Eli. What happened on the stairs?" He then changed his gaze, and stared out the window. "I, don't know. To be honest."

What does that even mean?! He took a deep breath and then looked at me with worry in his eyes. "Jax. You really don't know?" I shook my head. "I remember, telling mom to let go, when she had my arm. And then I woke up and you were covered in those burns."

Eli sighed. I scooted closer to him and set my hand on his thigh. "Please tell me." I whispered.

He looked at my hand, then at me, and nodded. "After your mom grabbed your arm, you said, "I told you to let go". Right after that, your eyes, they went black. You blinked and they went from normal to black." I gasped.

"You looked at her and reached out for her, getting closer to her. I tried to touch you but your skin was burning up." He smiled a little. "Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't get burnt."

I looked at my skin, and then at his. "I ran to you and wrapped my arms around you. But you kept getting closer to your mom. I apologized before, but I kissed you. I didn't know what else to do. I thought..." He looked away, straight faced. "You thought what Eli?"

"I thought I was going to lose you."
