Chapter 12
Marcia pov
We sat there surrounded by firelight, sitting in the kitchen, munching on tin soup and off bread.
"So, there's six different types races of immortals, there's the...um... Fey...Witches...Sprites...Mers...Synths and Weres. Me and Rae are Weres." Rosy looked awkward, her cheeks flushed red and her hands fiddling in her lap.
"There used to be a high priestess for each of the species. They were chosen by god, we think. That was until, about 1000 years ago, when the castle were the priestesses lived was attacked. Everyone in the castle was brutally killed, except Dawn, the Synths high priestess."
"Ever since, the Synths have been overruling, trying to claim and order around all of us. We were the first attacked, then the Sprites, Witches, Mers and Fey."
"Rae and me used to live in the town hidden out in the coast. Only Weres lived there. It was the only place we could worship the moon goddess. We did it illegally of cause. Then there was a leak. Someone told the Synths about us."
Rosy swallowed and looked like she was going to choke. Rae turned around so I couldn't see his face.
"The synths think their so good, being of the origin of light. But let me tell you, they far from being as perfect as they think. Their more like the sun, bringing on a draught and causing all of us to die from thirst."
"They came to our village. Our Dad was Alpha, so he went and fought to his death for his pack. They killed all the adults, and took all the children off to be adopted by Synth parents. Us and another family were the only ones who escaped."
As Rae spoke up, my eyes were fixed on the rim of my can, "You see, we're on the run, hiding in the shadows. We know they'll catch us eventually. But until then, I am going to cause as much trouble as possible. That there was just a break, I was trying to get Rosy through to at least year 9. But, I guess we messed up."
"Your smell was covered in Synth. I thought you had gone over to their side."
I looked at him.
"What do you mean?"
His eyes were sad. "You must know that I mean."
"Tell me."
He stayed silent. Rosy spoke up.
"You do know, all of us go through the change at puberty."
"What change?"
Rae's eyes flashed in temper "Stop playing dumb!"
Suddenly annoyed I stood up and stalked over to where Rae was sitting.
"Now listen here. Stop acting like I know everything, cause I don't. I didn't even know that my best friend was apparently a criminal on the run. Now you tell me what your on about or god help me I will...."
Rosy ripped me away from him her teeth bared. "You smell and act like a Were, I bet you taste like one too" she spat.
My jaw dropped after a second delay.
