Your hands flexed against the ceramic of the mug in your hands, the warmth of the tea seeping into your fingers. You curled your legs up on the couch, listening to the heavy patter of rain against the windowpane, the rolling thunder outside, the soft crackling of the fireplace in front of you.

Even with the ambient sounds to fill the silence, the cottage still felt too quiet when you were all alone. Left you with an uneasy feeling sinking deep into your gut, prickling goosebumps over your skin. The sensation of being alone, but not really. An uncomfortable kind of isolation.

Normally you would call Ominis over, just to have him sleep in the guest bedroom, just so you wouldn't have to drive yourself insane in the quiet of the empty cottage. You both took solace in each other after Sebastian's condemnation, a shoulder to cry on, a comfort in such a cold, lonely world where you felt you had no one else. The nights he could afford to give you he gave away freely, but he had his own responsibilities as an auror to tend to.

The slam of a window flying open, a gust of wind whistling through the house made your heart jump in your chest, a gasp slipping from your lips. You were too on-edge, too strung-up for your own good. You made your way to the kitchen, quickly latching closed the window, tucking your cardigan around yourself tighter as a response to the cold that had seeped in.

You stared out at the clearing around your property from the closed window, the tree leaves dancing in the wind and downpour. A crack of lightning illuminated the area briefly, and for a split second you could've sworn you noticed a movement in the treeline, just at the edge. You shook away the uneasiness that you felt, the chill that crept up your spine.

Then suddenly, a knock at the door. Rough pounding. Just as harsh as the conditions outside, a sound that made your blood run cold in your veins. It was too late for any sensible person to be at your door, not when you lived this deep in the woods. Your anxieties eased at the conclusion that it must be Ominis, a sense of comfort and relief washing over you at the thought of the blonde's presence.

You unlatched the bolt on the door, swinging it open. The howling wind made you shiver, droplets of rain sprinkling your skin.

It was not Ominis.

Someone hovered over you on your doorstep, dark robes, a cloak pulled over their head, the rain beating down on them. They stared down at you, and only when they shifted slightly at the sight of you, only when the warm light seeping from the open door of the cottage caught their features, did you recognize who it was.

Sebastian towered over you, his chestnut hair wet from the rain and clinging to his forehead, to his cheeks, overgrown. Little riverlets of rainwater dripping down the plane of his mandible, the bridge of his nose. Something burned in his eyes as he stared down at you, as if he'd been waiting for this moment for centuries, as if the object of all of his desires was right in front of him, right there for him to take in his hands.
