Desert Steves - Desert
Desert Steves are the first type of steves created by Genesis, and live primarily in the desert. These steves are typically pale gold or brown in color, similar to their sandy homes. Their clothing often has orange runic symbols on it, although many Desert Steves decide to replace these with other brightly colored clothing instead.
Desert Steves are... not the brightest, but their civilizations thrive in other ways. They spend time building beautiful architecture, mainly pyramids, and their kingdoms grow very quickly. Not only can Desert Steves build unusually fast, but they can run faster than a normal steve. Their populations grow rapidly when not faced with a constant threat, like the Last Inferno.
Aside from their speed, Desert Steves can also create sandstorms, which serve as distractions to their enemies, and disguise the otherwise barren landscape. When not concealed by sandstorms, however, both Desert Steves and their villages are very bright, as these people are very interested in the dyes produced by cacti and flowers.
Desert Steves are weak to water, as it typically has an acid-like effect on their skin. Desert Steves who touch water quickly start to disintegrate upon contact, and although singular limbs might be lost without killing a Desert Steve, full-body contact is usually fatal. During rainstorms they try to hide inside, to wait out the bad weather. Desert Steves are also susceptible to intense amounts of heat and pressure. They can survive fire and hot weather, but when the heat is combined with intense pressure their bodies typically warp into a glass-like structure, rendering them unable to move. One Desert Steve has reportedly been turned to smoke by intense heating, but it's unclear exactly how much heat was required to do that.
Overall, Desert Steves are typically friendly, albeit lazy. They do very little harm to those that threaten them, and even less to those who don't.
Forest Steves - Forest
Forest Steves are the second type of steves created by Genesis, and live in jungle biomes if possible. Their skin blends in with jungle wood, as it is either a rich dark brown or a brighter peach tone like the planks. Their hair and eyes are leafy green, and they usually wear leaves, vines, or flowers in their hair that further disguise them. Their clothing also matches their environment, and is well-suited for exercise.
Forest Steves are very friendly, although they can get skittish and shy when they feel threatened. They prefer to live peaceful, sociable lives. Their villages are sometimes ground-based, but are more likely to be found up in the treetops, where they are protected from the jungle's natural predators. This is no problem for Forest Steves, who are amazing jumpers, and almost never suffer fall damage, recovering quickly when they do.
Forest Steves have the ability to help grow plants, although they specialize in those grown in the jungle. This ability helps them to keep their environment healthy and balanced. This is reflected in their ability to create new Forest Steves if they don't spawn quickly enough on their own. This is done with an artifact granted to them by their creator. Unfortunately, Forest Steves can neither heal dead plants nor dead steves. They can only create new life.
Also like trees, Forest Steves are very weak to fire. They don't mind warm weather, but flames will quickly char their skin, and spread very quickly across their bodies. Most Forest Steves who catch fire don't live very long, and those who do are often permanently scarred from the experience. They become more brittle, developing problems with both jumping and falling.
Although sometimes nervous, Forest Steves are a generally welcoming group. They like meeting new people and sharing experiences, and are not likely to harm anybody.
