The names used in these stories have been changed to protect the innocent. You'll notice that certain people will be referred to only by their title (Ei. youth pastor, First Lady) this is intentional.
The stories that fill the next few chapters are true. The experiences shared are the real life moments held by women inside of Pentecostal and Apostolic churches. The stories have been grouped together and strung alongside each other only to help storytelling/flow.
Conservative and Hyper-fundamentalist style churches are full of stories just like the ones shared in this book. Not every member is a bad person, not every member suffers abuse (spiritual, emotional, physical, or sexual) and not every member chooses to walk away. This book is not a bashing tool or a tell all about legalism or Pentecostal style churches.
This project, these stories, and this book is meant to be a voice to the thousands of women (and men) who have stood up and walked away from the church.
This project is the loud voice screaming for all of those who have been silenced when they have asked questions and thought out-loud.
This book is the brave outcry for all of those who have been labeled bitter when they try to raise awareness or concerns.
These stories are the experiences of real humans who have found the strength to stand when they've been told they must sit down.
