Chapter 5

Today was the day that Jahzara was coming over, so Carmén got up earlier than usual so she could clean up her room. She didn't want company over and her room was messy.

Carmén finished cleaning up her room, she put on her clothes, then went the kitchen to eat some breakfast.

"Buenos Días, Mamí." Carmén said as she walked in the kitchen

(Good morning.)

"Hola bebé." Her mother replied whie putting a plate in front of the girl

"Gracias." Carmén said picking up her fork

"De nada. ¿No es este el día en que viene tu amiga?" Her mother asked

(You're welcome. Isn't this the day your friend is coming over?)

"Sí" Carmén responded before continuing to eat

"¿Puedo conocerla?" Her mother asked

(Do I get to meet her?)

"Sí Mamí. ¿Por qué quieres concerla tan mal?" Carmén questioned

(Yes Mama. Why do you want to meet her so bad?)

"Solo quiero ver si es una buena persona. Quiero saber qué tipo de personas mi hija se queda por ahí." Her mother said putting her hands up in defense

(I just wanna see if she's a good person. I wanna know what type of people my daughter hangs around.)

"Pero ella realmente es agradable. No tienes que preocuparte." Carmén said trying to convince her mother

(But she really is nice. You don't have to worry.)

"No puedo evitarlo. Me voy a preocupar por ti." Her mother said as she went o hug her

(I can't help it. I'm going to worry about you.)

"Lo sé. Pero estaré bien." Carmén said

(I know. But I'll be fine.)

"Ok." Her mother said as she let her go finish getting ready

Carmén brushed her teeth, did her hair, and put on her shoes, then her and her mother headed out the apartment.

The school day flew by. Carmén and Jahzara didn't get to talk to each other like they usually did since the day was filled with work and Jahzara sat with her other friends on Wednesday and Thursday.

Now the girls were walking to their 7th period classes.

"¿Dónde quieres renuirte despuès de la escuela?" Jahzara asked the girl as they walked down the hall

(Where do you wanna meet after school?)

"Podemos encontramos por al baño." Carmén responded

(We can meet by the bathroom.)

"Ok. Me tengo que ir. Voy a ver después de la escuela. Adiós." Jahzara said with a smile and wave
