Once I saw fire
In your eyes,
And you burned through
My bloodstream
With every word you whispered
Against my skin,
Give me love darling,
Love me like you used to
When autumn leaves fell
And we spoke at midnight
Laying under all the stars
With runaway dreams
Of everything that could be,
Before one small bump
Became a mountain
We couldn't climb,
Before you said
"You need me,
I don't need you,
Not anymore."
Take it back,
Darling
Reclaim the fireflies
That used to shine so bright
Lighting up your smile,
Before you made it rain,
Before I sat every morning
Staring into the past
Until the coffee all became cold,
Wake me up with a kiss,
Tell me it was just a dream
Or else show me everything I missed.
No I'm not drunk,
Darling I swear,
I'm just a mess
Sitting here
In the clothes you left,
Singing to your photograph.
You used to call me
Your little bird,
With songs so sweet,
But you stole my voice,
And I'm almost out of songs to sing.
Maybe it wasn't meant to be,
Maybe I'm just thinking out loud
And it'll never be you and me,
But darling
I still pray we find a way
To take it all back,
Please take me back.
