12: The escape (gone wrong)

"Hey... Jax wake up," I heard someone whisper.

As I regained consciousness, I opened my eyes to see...

"It's me, Jayla," She whispered.

"I can see that," I muttered.

I won't lie. I missed my bestie.

It sucked having to be mad at her all the time.

I love her.

"I just wanted to check on you," she said as she smiled slightly.

I smiled back at her as I sat up.

"Awe you kinda care," I said jokingly.

"...I do... plus, I remember the time Eva-" she stopped.

"You can tell me Jay... you're my best friend," I said.

"Still?"

"Yes you bum, I fucking love you," I let out.

She smiled.

Then she looked down as she was about to talk.

"...Eva's never hurt me before. I guess I've just always really liked her. Once I met her, I didn't have eyes for anyone else..."

"I bet she liked that," I added.

"Yeah... but I remember this time I came home early, because I wasn't in the mood to keep hiking, that's when I heard noises coming from Eva's room. When I went inside, I saw Eva on top of Maria, when she heard I came in, she quickly got up. And I could see Maria crying on the floor, while holding her neck. Eva looked at me and said 'don't be scared, this won't happen to you,' and that was the first time I'd ever seen her do anything harmful. Maria hasn't been the same ever since." She explained.

I stayed silent in thought.

"When I saw Eva dragging you into the basement, I got scared. Promise me you won't provoke her, I don't want her hurting you," she said sadly.

"She won't hurt me anymore," I let out.

"Because we're getting out of here," I added.

"What?! Are you crazy?" Jayla exclaimed.

"Look, I know you're like in love with her and all, but we gotta do what's best for us Jay," I said.

She looked skeptical... I could tell she was.

She just nodded and smiled.

"You're on board, great! I'm gonna go talk to Maria and Jade," I said as I got up.

I hugged Jayla before leaving the room.

"So... you wanna like.. escape?" Jade asked.

"Yeah, what do you two think?"

"Is Jayla a hundred percent on board with this?" Maria asked.

"Ha yeah, isn't she like Eva's little pet?" Jade laughed.

"Okay okay not too much on my best friend," I said.

Which made Jade laugh even more.

"Anyway! Yes, she's doing this with us," I added.

"Hmmm, I'm in, Eva isn't even attracted to me anymore," Jade laughed.

"Stop laughing so much, this is barely funny," Maria said.
