FENTON

I couldn't believe it. Not only had this human being brought me down and figured out my weakness, but he was feeling sadness, for it had been his species that had cast this curse upon me. I had never known a more Human human. Perhaps he could be my successor. I decided it would be fitting that I show him my proper form. Thus I changed back to my original form.

KANE

My fear of the ocean was overcome by my love for Philip as I saw the gargantuan body of the leviathan fall towards the island's coast. In all my years of travels, I had never come across a being so knowledgeable. Looking into its eyes I had known that it was an intelligent one, very rare in the species of leviathans.

I ran towards the body but time had seemed to slow down. The faster I tried to run, the slower I seemed to move across the vast land. Finally, the pressure lifted and I ran with all my might towards where Philip was located.

Of all the things that I had thought could happen after that point, not once did it cross my mind that the leviathan could disappear.

As i was running, I saw the body of the leviathan slowly fade out of existence and all his energy relocated to his heart. I was afraid for the safety of Philip, thus i ran faster than ever to reach him before something bad happened but what i saw next made me doubt my sight.

Just as the leviathan's body disappeared, a man appeared in front of Philip. To call him a man would be an insult to what he was. He could not have been anything less than a god. The being in front of me first looked like a cross between an octopus and a human, with tentacles slowly closing in on themselves, looping around and around to form something that resembled a human.

Then they all condensed into each other and what was left was a human body. The ocean around us rose to form a wall around the human and when the ocean subsided from us, what i saw was nothing short of a miracle.

A being in a human body, with scales on his body like armour, and his body was held up by confidence. A black area on his scales where his heart should have been. And his face seemed like something picked out from a fairy tale, but no words could be used to describe the fear that i felt when he opened his eyes. His sclera was pure blue with tiny dots swimming around, and he had heterochromatic irises, one was brown and the other was red. The brown eye had an orange dot and seemed unnervingly like an underwater volcano. Whereas the red eye seemed much calmer but it kept getting darker the closer it got to the pupil, which seemed to absorb light from the surrounding areas. He had unkempt hair that went to the base of his neck.

And even worse was his aura. Never before did i feel so powerless in front of another being. He looked directly at Philip who had fallen over due to this god's power.

"Wh-" Philip's voice broke. It was a wonder he even managed to speak that much but he immediately fell over again.

He looked up even though he was unable to move, and suddenly there was a fire in his eyes that i did not understand but knew all too well. It was the same fire that had been there when he knew he was going to fail but still decided to try his best. It was an emotion I had never understood but all humans possessed it.

He looked into the god's eyes and managed to utter the words through gritted teeth— "Who the hell are you?"

The god seemed amused by Philip's efforts and reeled his aura back in. Suddenly breathing became easier, and before i knew it, I was helping Philip up.

The god laughed at us and began to talk.

"Oh! How interesting you mortals are. I had forgotten how strong you could be, even in the face of utter defeat and despair, you can still hope. What an interesting ability."
He looked back at me and Philip as if expecting us to speak and it was Philip who began first.

"We're special like that. But please answer my question first — Who are you?"

"Haha! You do not stray from your path, do you? Well, nonetheless, I am a God."

Philip waited for him to say something more, but he seemed to be done. Philip was about to get angry when I asked the god, "We ask for your identity, and not your title, Oh great...?"

"Fenton. My name is Fenton, cursed one. And I am a divine being. Before the days of humans or elves. When it was possible for beings to ascend to godhood, I tested their wills and their powers.

"And your will has surpassed even mine. Worry not about this poison. For one who has attained godhood like me, this does not matter. But I have a proposal for you."

After he was done with this, He looked at Philip and spoke, "Become my Successor."
