Days later things had returned to normal but something was wrong with Emily. She was sick all the time and refused to eat anything, making Cordell worry. He tried to get information from her grandparents but they refused calling him a playboy and a irresponsible idiot. His parents on the other hand encouraged him to have Emily see a doctor to make sure everything was alright. It seemed like the logical solution despite his worries.
"Emily I know you hate being told what to do but you need help." He said."I keep telling you I'm fine," she responded. "No need to see anyone."
The two of them stood in her living room where their friend Geri made an unexpected appearance. She asked if everything was alright since Emily kept leaving school early which forced the two to explain.
"Emily how come you didn't tell me you were sick?" Geri asked.
"Because Cordi and I didn't want anyone to worry." She responded."You need to see a doctor, you can't keep ignoring this." Cordell said.
Emily flipped her head around and refused to make eye contact with them. He sighed not in the mood to fight with her, Geri shook her head. Cordell whispered that it might not be the best idea but Geri ignored it.
"Em maybe you could..." She began.
"I said I'm fine stop asking!" Emily exclaimed. "You two are both nosey, just leave me alone!"The room fell silent at her outburst and after a second Emily dropped to her knees in tears. Without a second thought Cordell was at her side trying to comfort her. She pushed him away at first before crying on his shoulder. The teen didn't say a word just held onto her wondering what to say. This went off for awhile until Geri spoke up.
"Emily what's really going on?" She asked.
The two listened to her rant about she knew what might be going on, but was scared."Hey you have nothing to be scared about, you'll be okay." Cordell said.
"He's right Em, whatever happens we will support you." Geri added in.
Emily sniffled and her sobs decreased until she smiled. Cordell let out a sigh of relief, after days of her nausea and mood swings. He would finally get an answer as to what was going on with her.
"Okay you two are right, I need to get out of here," she said. "I just hope this visit won't make things worse."***
Denise's mind was stuck as she thought about what Adrian was planning. She didn't want to hurt Cordell a second time, it was hard enough the first time. Yet at the same time she didn't want him to be with anyone else. The thought of Emily putting her hands on Cordell or hearing about they had sex, made her blood boil. The burning jealousy kept rushing back to her whenever she thought about backing out. Her family had been so much; first it was losing a child, a fire, homeless, now it was repaying their debts. Her hands formed into fits as she thought about the deal Adrian had made with her.
She would do whatever he asked without question as long as he helped her get what she wanted. She didn't just want Cordell, she wanted her family to be brought out of the gutter. As quiet and strange as Adrian given that his parents were never around. He was quite wealthy and worked closely with Miles Warren. A stuck up rich boy who she always picked on but Adrian kept around for some reason.
"He's crazy, I can't..." She stumbled over her words and a part of her wanted to run. Maybe if she just told the truth, Cordell would help her and they would could pick up where they left off. "Yes he will forgive me."She got up but was stopped when someone knocked on her door. Not thinking much about it she opened it only to see just an envelope. She gasped when she picked it up and saw what was written on it.
Don't act surprised, I had to reach out to you, meet me tonight at my house something has happened. One of my contacts spotted Emily and Cordell at the hospital, I didn't get much else but I think there might be a new problem. If there's a baby, I'm going to take it. Are you with me? We still have work to do Davidson.
-ADenise read it again as angry tears ran down her face. Emily couldn't be pregnant, it had only been one night and she wasn't the one meant to carry his children. Her heart blacked at the simple thought of losing Cordell forever. She brushed off her mother when came to check on her, and thought about what she would do to this child. If there was one, but her mind didn't care if that was a lie. She would discover the truth and get what she was owned.
"Honey what are you doing?" Gale asked.
"Don't worry, I'm going to save our family." She responded.
Gale raised her eyebrows but Denise turned away and asked when they could go back to Walker ranch.***
Everything was clouded as soon as Emily got into the doctor's office. He asked about her symptoms while his intern stood in the book taking notes. Emily couldn't help but feel uncomfortable even with Cordell in the room. The doctor checked for a few other things that could be cause, everything came back negative. Which made Emily's heart quicken, she was late which might mean she was pregnant. A few weeks ago she would have laughed at that possibility, but if she wasn't sick what other explanation was there? She might not have remembered everything from that night but she did have sex. So as much as she didn't want to think about it, she might have to become a teen mother.
"When did these symptoms start?" The intern asked.
Emily didn't answer she was busy internally panicking. Cordell answered for her and asked if she was alright when the doctor turned his back. She shook her head and grabbed his hand for support. The doctor looked through a few papers and Emily's fears were confirmed when he gave her a pregnancy test. She was only seventeen and having a baby would change her life. Would she even be able to take care of one? She didn't have a job or a stable family life. What if her grandparents made her give the baby up? There were too many unknowns and she couldn't handle it.She hated the look on Cordell's face, he looked worse than she did and she could only imagine what he was thinking.
"Um miss?" The doctor asked.
"Sorry lost in thought, I'll check it out,"Emily responded. "I'll be back."
She placed a hand on Cordell's shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. Whatever happened she hoped he wouldn't blame himself for it.
