"I never got your name." The brunette stated inquisitively as we packed up our belongings.
"Oh, my apologies, it's Jamie, how about you?" I responded, looking up towards her.
"Dorothea, but my friends call me Thea." she replied.
"Dorothea... Dorothea..." I pondered. "Where have I heard that name befor- Dorothea Battes!?" I shouted in realisation.
"Aha yep that's me, let me guess, you're dorm 126...?" she chuckled, aware that the only people who knew of her full name would be the staff, and of course, the residents of 126.
I smiled at her, attempting to come across as likeable, and gently nodded my head to confirm.
"Please tell me you know where it is, I haven't had a chance to unpack and have no clue where I'm headed." she continued, almost in one breath nervously, hoping I'd say yes.
"Let me help with your bags, I've already settled in." I offered calmly, reassuring her that everything would be just fine.
Within a short half an hour, the pair of us had managed to carry all her bags to the dorm, allowing us to get to know each other... more so her getting to know me. I felt guilty constantly talking about myself but she was ever so interested in how a young Brit like me had round up in Los Angeles. I didn't let her into much. As time has progressed I've learnt the hard way that you should never open up fully to someone you don't truly know. Of course, she was told the bare minimum. She knew I was kicked out and how I was able to get a place here, anything further than that was yet to be revealed.
As we approached the front door of our dorm, we turned to one another, taking a deep breath before placing the key in the lock and twisting it open. The interior appeared to be just as I had left it. I began to wonder if the others had even moved in yet, until I heard their footsteps approach the door to greet us.
"Hey you must be Jamie and Dorothea!" The taller of the two announced in a clear Cali' accent as they both began picking up bags to take into the entry.
Both girls were breathtakingly beautiful. Kate was the taller one, not by much. She was roughly 5'6, Harley must have been 5'4. They had blue hair and blonde eyes with Kate's hair falling around her shoulders and Harley's flowing to her waist. They seemed to belong here, both clearly natives and already friends. I feel as though me and Thea were slightly intimidated, besides, we grabbed a few bags to help, listening as they explained that they had taken the left room, meaning Thea is to move into right- my room. Secretly, I couldn't be happier.
I spent the rest of the day helping Thea to unpack and get settled in what is now our room whilst Harley and Kate began to cook dinner. We continued to get to know one another, this time I got to hear more about her. She's 18, her birthday is 7 days before mine, and she's a 'Swiftie' just like me! She had lived in Southern Ireland since birth before moving to LA during the summer so her father could pursue his life-long dream of being a Hollywood director. She appeared to be hiding something, I didn't want to ask what however I soon picked up that she was yet to mention her mother...
"Dinners ready!" Harley bellowed from the kitchen as Kate laid the table with cutlery.
Dorothea and I paused our conversation, heading to the dining room.
