Kenji squinted his eyes to see the figure better, and as it slowly got up and limped away from the alleyway, he saw the tips of dirty blonde hair peeking out from the dirtied red hood the figure wore.

Kenji felt his stomach grow full even though it had been hungry just a moment ago, had he saw something he shouldn't have?

[...]

"So, anything interesting happened at school today?" Atsuko asked while she was scrambling some eggs over at the stove.

"Oh, uhh, nothing really." Kenji replied, being partly distracted from the video he was watching on his phone. The video showcased a cat rolling over and falling off a bed and it made him let out a small chuckle.

But then, the memory of what he saw in the alleyway crossed over his mind once more, and he forgot about his hunger again as he realised he might've saw blood at the edge of the figure's mouth and nose.

"Did something happen?" He thought anxiously.

"Here, the egg's done, eat up." Atsuko announced with a smile as she ploped down a plate of the steaming scrambled eggs. She then sat down with her own bowl of rice.

She had her leg picked up and on the chair as she started stuffing her face with rice. Kenji let out a laugh and whatever he was thinking about earlier promptly left his mind as the two siblings laughed out loudly together.

"But really, you seemed a bit off lately, you sure nothing's going on at school?" Atsuko asked again, now a little concerned as she looked into Kenji's eyes.

Kenji paused and didn't say anything for a moment, "Yeah no, I'm fine." he replied reassuring her and placing a clump of rice into his mouth.

Atsuko watched as Kenji chewed, somehow she knew he wasn't telling the truth, or that he wasn't telling her the whole truth. She knew he had been bullied a lot when they were younger, and she stood up for him then but now that she's become an adult, she could no longer do that for her little brother.

A sad feeling washed over Atsuko's heart, but she covered it up with a smile anyway.

"Alright, but if anything does happen, you know who you can count on." She winked at him, moving a hand over to swipe at Kenji's head playfully.

"Oh come on, I'm not a kid anymore alright?" Kenji declared before giving in and letting out a laugh again.
