Ridley sighed, dragging themselves out of bed haphazardly.
There were loud banging noises coming from Sage's bedroom.
"Sage, are you okay?" Ridley gently knocked on the door, hearing heavy breathing from the other side.
Ridley was getting scared. They twisted the doorknob with small hesitation.
There Sage was, holding their wounded arm with the other and stopping there, rather standoffish'ly.
Of course, there was the elephant in the room.
Big, bat-like veiny wings, two sets of them, were extruding from Sage's clothing. They had a large scar dripping blood on their face and arm.
"Holy sh__, Sage.... ."
"I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED PLEASE, PLEASE BELIEVE ME!"
"I DO!" "Just calm down and let me fix your arm, okay?"
Sage nodded, whimpering slightly. Ivy had grudgingly awoken from bed and froze as Sage's open door while Ridley grabbed some bandages.
"Sage..?" Ivy muttered.
"Ivy please don't be scared- i don't know what happened either. Please."
Ivy took a deep breath in and nodded, helping prop up their arm for Ridley and get Sage a glass of water and an ice pack.
- skips stitches cutely because writing that would make me throw up <3 -
Sage had been entirely knocked out after, THAT, and Ivy couldn't stop looking at the wings. Ridley was still entirely surprised but looked more in thought than scared as Ivy was.
"... Ridley."
" *y-* yeah?"
"You know what this is, don't you."
Ridley opened their mouth and gave Ivy a look that just said 'yes, but let's not question sage anymore about this.'
"please, just tell me."
'..'
"Ridley, this is my sister."
"Please."
Ridley sighed inaudibly.
"Right. Obviously, you and Sage know that I'm adopted."
"Stop stalling."
Ridley's eyes almost did tear up, but they didn't normally show emotion.
"I, well, .."
Ridley took off their sweater and put on a black tank top. It confused Ivy, but they were too focused on the veiny wings to think it mattered.
Until a new set of wings appeared. Actually, Ridley had stood up, three sets of wings glowing in the golden sun. But these were different than Sage's. They had pearly-white feathers.
{ ~ One set near their ears, more hard to the touch.
One set on their lower back, and one on the higher back. ~ }
Sage had lower wings than theirs, both on the lower back.
"WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL?!"
"Ivy!-"
"SO YOU'VE JUST BEEN HIDING THIS FROM US FOR HOWMANY YEARS?!"
"IVY."
Ivy teared up, snapping her cellphone and taking a picture.
Ridley tried to stop them, but instead, slowly, tears started falling.
Ivy ran out of the house.
Sage had woken up awhile ago, when Ridley introduced their wings.
"What happens now, Ridley?" Sage whimpered. They looked like a wounded puppy.
"We need to go. Pack some stuff, okay?"
Who knows what people would do to them when they find out.
Ridley wiped a tear from Sage's face.
"It'll all be okay."
Sage nodded, and began dragging clean clothes into a bookbag.
Were they going to find Ivy? What happened?
Sage thought.
