Today, I had asked Jack to help bring all the citizens of Halloweentown into Town Hall for a meeting, because I was going to tell them a story.
When everyone had arrived, the Mayor spoke to the Pumpkin King about everything.
"She's such a wise young lady, I can assure you, Mayor".
Jack said, smiling.
He could see me interacting with the Corpse Kid and his parents.
I gave them each a orange and black colored candy cane, which was Halloween-themed.
After getting all the Halloweentown children together, I kindly asked them to sit down in front of the audience.
Once everyone was settled in their seats, Jack spotted his girlfriend Sally, a kind and clever ragdoll.
"Jack, this horribly wonderful. I can't wait to hear our friend's story".
She said, holding his skeletal hand.
"Yes, it is a very generous thing to do for our Town of Halloween. When I informed the citizens about what was happening, everyone was screaming with joy".
Jack smiled, giving her a hand a gentle squeeze.
Sally giggled.
Then, she saw me waving at her, and proceeded to wave back.
"Listen everyone"!
Jack called everyone out, as he stood in front of the podium.
"Our new friend Emily here is going to tell us all story. Isn't that horrid"?
"Is the story about how you became our Pumpkin King"?
A vampire asked.
"What about the time we took over Christmas"?
A tall witch raised her hand.
He gave me a skeleton grin, and I took my attention to the crowd.
"The story I'm about to tell you goes back. All the way back during the California Gold Rush of 1849".
I said with a smile of excitement.
"What's the story"?
Corpse Mom asked, as her son bounced up and down on her shoulder.
"Yeah! Me want to hear story"!
Behemoth clapped his hands up and down, and then accidentally bumped into someone else.
"Everyone, please! Now, not so fast".
Jack politely said to the citizens.
"F/n is going to tell us the story right now. So, please be patient".
Sally told the audience in her own sweet and kind way.
"In the year 1849, California had lots of gold, which is a place in the Human World, and the people that existed during that period were eager to get rich quick. The ones that were mining for gold were what we referred to as miners".
Everyone in the audience seemed to be very interested in this tale.
"One of these miners known as The Miner Forty-Niner. He had a daughter named Clementine. She was light as a feather and her feet were a size nine, and since they couldn't t afford shoes, her father gave her boxes to wear as sandals. And fell in love with a man who loved her dearly. There feelings for each other were strong".
I then prepared myself to tell the sad part of the story.
"Each day, Clementine would chase the ducklings to the water every morning just at nine. But then one day, she hit her foot on a splinter and fell into the river".
Sally looked up at Jack with worry and dear.
"Her lover tried everything he could to save her, but unfortunately, he wasn't a swimmer. So, Clementine drowned in the river and sank to the bottom, leaving her lover heartbroken".
The whole town of Halloween felt sorry for Clementine.
"Upon hearing the news of Clementine's death, the Miner-Forty-Niner was so saddened by his loss, decided to join his daughter, and committed suicide by blowing himself up with dynamite".
I continued, and noticed that Sally was close to crying.
Even the Mayor had tears of sadness running down his face.
He picked up a handkerchief from his pocket and blew his nose.
"But in a canyon, there was a churchyard. The myrtle boughs entwine, where the roses and other posies were fertilized by Clementine".
Now, it was the scary part.
Everyone was anxious to hear it.
"As the years went by, the lover's dreams were haunted by Clementine's spirit. Even though he used to hug her when she was alive, but now she's dead".
By now everyone in HalloweenTown was very sad.
How could this happen to such a young person?
Sally was now crying and Jack's facial expression had now changed to sad.
