"I didn't forget about the axe to the head, ya know"

"She was fine. She was taking her meds again, she was painting again" Nica spoke sadly as she looked up at her sister and family behind her. The (h/c) haired woman stood beside the quivering brunette but eyed the smartly dressed woman in front of them. "How could she do that, Barbie? How could she do that to herself?" Nica whimpered.

Barbie didn't seem all that concerned as she gestured towards the cloaked man standing beside her.

"You remember Father Frank" The woman replied, stepping inside the house and allowing her husband, Ian and daughter, Alice, and their live in nanny, Jill, to follow after her.

The priest sent a soft smile towards the other sister, sympathy in his eyes. He seemed kind enough.

"Yes. Hello, Father" Nica greeted respectfully.

"I'm so very sorry for your loss, Nica" Frank frowned softly.

The brunette nodded gently and looked down at her lap. "I appreciate it, but you know my mother and i both left the church a long time ago" She reminded.

"Your sister just thought it would be a good idea for me to come" Frank spoke nervously, sensing the tension between the two siblings.

Nica's gaze hardened. "It would have been nice of her to talk that over with me first" She glared at her sister.

(Y/n) crossed her arms as Barbie scoffed and sent her a disapproving glance.

"Well clearly we both didn't tell the other of unexpected company. Who's this, Nica?" Barbie snapped as she eyed the (h/c) haired woman with distrust.

"I'm (Y/n). Nica and Sarah's good friend and I do not have to explain myself to you" The woman defended herself while returning the glare. "Shouldn't you be more sympathetic towards your sister who just lost her mother? She was your mother too" She challenged.

Barbie went to step forwards but Ian placed his hand on her arm and she stayed still.

"I'm just looking out for you, Nica. Mom just died and it's awful funny that she suddenly passes when this woman shows up here. How can you be sure she can be trusted?" Barbie sputtered. "There could have been foul play!" She was desperate.

Alice's eyes lit up before she was stepping forward and waving up at the (h/c) haired woman.

"Mommy, she looks nice" She tugged on her mother's pant leg. Nica sighed and smiled towards her niece.

"Barb, (Y/n) is a close friend and I trust her, okay?" Nica defended. "Now...let's just celebrate the life of mom please?" She pleaded.

Barbie nodded slowly and wandered off upstairs, glaring one last time at the (h/c) haired woman.

Ian smiled and stepped forward to break the tension up. "Hey! Gimme a hug! Is that a new chair?" He greeted his sister in law.

Nica smiled back. "Hey Ian. Yeah...it is" She hugged him back.

Ian outstretched his arm towards a younger blonde woman that was standing beside him. "This is Jill, my new au pair" He introduced.

"No, I'm just the nanny. Hi" Jill greeted with a sweet smile on her face but there was something off in her eyes. (Y/n) couldn't really place it at the moment.

Nica's eyes landed on her niece and she outstretched her arms towards her. "Come here, you. I'm so happy you're here!" She smiled as the girl walked into her hug. Alice was always so close to her, she was a good kid.

Jill eyed (Y/n) with a strange look in her eyes. "You look familiar..." She spoke softly. "Weren't you the one involved in those mur-" Her sentence was cut off by a loud thud in the other room.

(Y/n) was reeling from almost being recognized by her involvement in the series of murders over the years. She hoped that the secret never came out because it would surely destroy her chances of trust building here.

Nica wheeled herself into the next room and smiled, picking up the ginger haired doll that had fallen over from it's perch on the chair.

"Alice, I have a surprise for her" She called and the little girl rushed over. Her eyes widened excitedly as she took the doll into her arms.

(Y/n) frowned, walking into the room after them and seeing the scene before her. The ginger's eyes met hers behind the little girl's back and he sent her a teasing wink.

"Asshole." She scoffed under her breath.

"(Y/n), you wanna help Alice and I with dinner?" Nica questioned, glancing up at the woman.

She smiled tightly. "Of course" She nodded.
