'Yay We Infiltrated Hydra' Party

We hadn't been back home after the mission for two hours, and I heard a knock on my door. I strolled leisurely over to the door, brushing my hair, but the knocking wouldn't stop, the incessant pounding on my door only getting louder.

"Alright!" I exclaimed, throwing the door open.

"Here's your dress, change, be down in ten, party's here," Tony told me briefly, shoving a dress in my hands and shutting the door, leaving me shocked. I shouldn't have been, I mean, he's Tony Stark. He probably throws a party every time he does something vaguely manual like... I dunno... flushing a toilet! Or something...

I turned back around to face my room, throwing my dress on the bed. It was pretty, I'd admit. It had a sweetheart neckline, and a royal blue chiffon skirt, topped with a golden embroidered top half that accentuated the blue in the dress itself.

I sighed, the ritual being all to familiar, being a Stark, as I wiggled into it and headed over to sit at my dresser. Make-up was easy for me, I had my routine mastered so it hardly took me any time at all. I hastily rubbed in some foundation, before carefully applying thick black eyeliner around my eyes, and going on to paint some pink lip gloss over my lips. Rushing over to my wardrobe, I quickly pulled out some heels, stepping into them and fastening them quickly before I brushed my hair through one last time and put it over one shoulder.

I headed out into the corridor, shutting my door behind me, and dragged my feet to the staircase. I could already hear and feel the music pumping through the mansion from downstairs, and I hoped to God that my sense of deja vu wouldn't result in me getting kidnapped like last time. I shuddered at the thought as I took a deep breath and descended the stairs.

I gripped the handrail tightly for support. Truth be told, I wasn't at all in the mood for a party, but I guess we had infiltrated a Hydra base, so maybe a celebration was the motivation we would need for the next stage.... maybe.

I gave Happy a weak smile as I finally reached the bottom of the stairs, having not noticed anything going on whatsoever; not Tasha flirting with Bruce, not Rhodes telling his War Machine stories that I had heard thousands of times before, not Thor giving some war veterans some really strong Asgardian alcohol, nor did I notice Steve chatting happily with people about how much Earth had evolved since he had flown into the ice. Happy immediately scurried over to me and offered me his arm. I gave him another weak smile before taking it, wrapping my small hand around his forearm securely, as I could feel myself becoming dizzy already.

"You really are your brother's complete opposite, you know that right?" Happy asked and I smiled, nodding silently in an attempt to sooth my suddenly throbbing head.

"Bree?" Happy asked, using his nickname for me, "You don't look so good. As in you look about-to-pass-out pale. Do you wanna go outside?"

I shook off his concerned manner with a small shake of my head; "I'm fine," I croaked; "I just need a drink."

He nodded silently and guided me to the bar. When Tony would mean about ten litres of alcohol when he said 'drink', I only meant a soft drink- a coke or something... I doubted anything vaguely alcoholic would help my current state.

"You okay?" Happy asked again as he watched my chug half the glass from my thin straw.

I shrugged half-heartedly and he sighed. He knew something was wrong. It wasn't often that I acted like this at one of Tony's parties. I didn't throw myself into it like he did, but I wasn't normally as quiet and participated with a genuine smile on my face.

I gave Happy a look when he raised his phone to his ear but nearly snatched the damn thing out of his hands when I heard him say, "JARVIS, I'm requesting you scan Breanna, something isn't right."

"Happy, I'm fine," I protested, but soon his face went paler and I could only assume what JARVIS had to report wasn't too good.

"Whatever it is, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, thanks JARVIS!" I called, flipping Happy's phone shut for him.

I could see him about to protest but shoved a drink in his hand; "Do what your name suggests, buddy; Be Happy."

With that, I took a deep breath to try and clear my throbbing head before grabbing Happy's hand and dragging him over to Thor and the veterans.

I smiled as I watched them being dragged away as they were out in a matter of moments as a result of the severely strong alcohol.

I could sense Happy's concerned stare on me but every time I turned around to snap at him, he turned to look at something else.

A part of me was genuinely scared at what JARVIS could have detected by scanning me, but a bigger part of me just wanted to get this party over and done with.

Hours later and the party had thinned out to just the main people involved with the Avengers; myself, Tony, Steve, Clint, Tasha, Bruce, Thor, Rhodes, Maria, and Helen Cho. Even Happy had gone home, although he had told me to get some rest as soon as possible before he left.

I smiled fondly at the bond we shared, before turning my attention back to the present competition.

I tried to ignore the banging in my head as a competition went on to try and lift Thor's hammer.

I watched in amusement as Tony failed with his human hand, and so enlisted the help of his Ironman hand.... and when that didn't work, enlisted the help of Rhodes' War Machine hand. When that didn't work either, they gave up, after of course they'd had a petty argument about 'representing'.
I don't know if I was the only one who noticed the hammer shift slightly when Steve tried to lift it. Thor seemed genuinely scared by his face for a split second so I guess I wasn't imagining things, but everyone else just laughed that Cap couldn't lift it so I just gave him a knowing smile as he sat back down.
"Breanna, are you wishing to try your luck?" Thor asked cockily once Bruce had failed to lift the hammer and Tasha had refused.
"Sure why not?" I shrugged, hauling myself out of my seat beside Steve.
"Go Breanna! Do it for the girls!" Tasha chanted.
"Do it for the Starks if anything!" Tony demanded, and I smirked, closing in on the hammer.
Once I got to the table, I examined it for a second. It looked easy enough to pick up but I knew Asgardian metal must be as strong as their alcohol. Nevertheless I grabbed the handle of the hammer and circled my shoulders a bit for effect before pulling as hard as I could. It wouldn't budge. Like at all.
"Here, let me give you a hand," Thor joked and pushed the base of the hammer off the table while I still had a hold of it.
As the hammer fell the short distance to the floor, it dragged me with it and I collapsed beside it, still holding it for some reason.
The team laughed as Thor helped me up and Steve helped me back into my place on the sofa, and I couldn't help but laugh with them.
It was amazing how much our moods would change in mere seconds...
