Summary: Steve doesn't want to leave Eddie down there, even if he's dead. It's not fair to go through all this, clear Eddie's name, and not give Wayne at least a body to bury. He'll find him if it's the last thing he does.

"This is fucked up, man."
Jonathan had been on his ass all afternoon, not that Steve was all that surprised. Being with Nancy Wheeler had the odd perk of making you a paranoid sucker sometimes. Steve knew that well.
He didn't have to be so...up himself about it. Jonathan wasn't annoying, no, and Steve couldn't even jokingly say he was, he needed him to stick around so he could go through with this, but he was a stickler. He had a hard set face and hard set opinions to go with it.
He's good for Nancy, Steve will give him that.
"It's not fair," Steve tells him, briefly pausing from where he was hunched over his bag, packing frantically, "Wayne went through hell to clear his name, I'm not leaving him at this. He deserves— Deserves a fucking burial or something. At least."
"Yeah, okay, I get that," Jonathan sighs as Steve goes back to his task, "but why do I have to go? With Nancy and Robin— They've been there before! I have no idea what's in there."
"Exactly," Steve huffs, slinging the bag over his shoulder, "Robin and Nance deserve a goddamn break. Put your fuckin' big boy pants on and let's get in the fucking hole."
Jonathan winces. "Don't say it like that," he tells him. Steve scoffs and pushes past him to leave.
There's copious amounts of cops and police tape around Eddie's trailer, but Steve's been watching it long enough to know they can't be everywhere. He yanks Jonathan by the wrist, urging him to hurry across the lawn and over to the large, horrifically overwhelming gate that's formed in place of Eddie's home.
They duck behind some of the rubble of the trailer to go over the plan one last time.
"Extra layers tucked into your pants, ok?" Steve says, and Jonathan nods, swallowing harshly. "Those bat things bite the shit out of you, I'm not risking it. Keep the scarf around your neck and don't be fucking loud. I'll kill you myself if you die."
"You're pleasant company," Jonathan snarks. Steve pulls a face at him in return, looking around to peer for any police.
The dark of the sky covers them a little, and Steve's grateful he chose to do this late. Broad daylight would've shit all over this plan.
The coast is clear, and Steve shoves at Jonathan's shoulder to urge him towards the pulsing gate. Jonathan makes a face at it, sucking in a sharp breath. He looks to Steve for a last assurance, and Steve nods at him before he bites the bullet and jumps in.
The slimy cover layer gives way beneath Jonathan, and he disappears amongst the vines and goop. Steve takes a second to gather himself. He makes the mistake of looking towards Eddie's room, still partly intact.
There's Judas Priest poster torn a little on the floor. His clothes and bedding are scattered - likely all the things Wayne could save without intruding past the gate. His tapes are crushed and broken over the floor.
He steps toward the mess, picking up the only tape that wasn't utterly destroyed. It's Iron Maiden, to no one's damn surprise. Steve sighs at it, tucking it away in his pocket for no real reason, and dives head-first into the gate before he can even begin to regret it. He's not letting Eddie get away this time.
