Being A Cat

By: Greg K.

Hi, I'm a cat. A normal cat. I have green eyes and orange fur, I think. I never looked in a mirror. I hope I have green eyes. I like fishsticks, tofu, and of course, catnip. I also have a dogfriend named 'Spike'. He has brown fur and cat like ears. Usually, dogs don't have cat like ears. There are only three types of dogs, right? There are also two types of cats.

I suppose I hate visitors. Once, a small boy visited me and I tried to scare him by staring at him, but he just nervously petted me. It turns out that he pets me nice, so I slept with him. When he left, I kind of missed him. That's the start of my adventures, I think. It all started when I found a dead bird, and ate fishsticks from my owner's plate. It was fun.

I savoured the fishy taste in my mouth as I chewed, but then my owner gave me an ear-splitting WHACK! My backside exploded with pain and I had to limply walk my back legs the rest of the day. I guess my owner felt bad for me, so she gave me another fishstick. The fishsticks melted into my mouth as I chewed them.

I tried to lick my back legs when the sun rose to reduce the pain, but it didn't help very much. I also felt a very large wad of hair in my stomach, and I HATE spitting out hairballs. My fat owner usually has to WHACK me in my chest as I spit out the hairball that tastes like seaweed and cardboard.

The backside sting didn't help today much. I usually climb fences and go to other houses. One house has this crazy and energetic fluffy white dog (the second type of dog) that darts out of the house to chase me when I'm on the fence. I like to taunt it by waving my paw up and down and meowing a million times. You see pure rage in this small dog. A wildfire in it's eyes.

Spike always says not to taunt him, but I reply that he always barks at night, preventing me from sleeping. I wish I had non extra-sensitive hearing like humans. I hear crickets, grass swaying, small winds, that DOG, even my owner's flubby neck. Spike is a dog, so naturally he sticks up to his race.

I'm making a mental diary of what is happening from now on. Oh, by the way, I hear my owner's neck jingle right now. She's nice and all, but I wish I got a different owner that actually plays with me. You know what? I'm making a letter to the Cat God right now.
