Chapter 3: Mystery Envelops Her

"Aunt North, I'm fine. No need to call my mom."

"No no no! Your actions today has made me worried."

I'm in my bedroom right now. According to North, one of my mom and dad's closest friends, after I fainted, I was quickly rushed to the school clinic by Colden and explained the situation to them. Colden said that while we were hanging out, I suddenly looked weak but he didn't expect me to faint. The clinic nurse told me that all my symptoms are normal but I may have experienced tiredness.

Oh my. What happened? I tried to remember what happened before I fainted but all I receive is nothing but an ache in my head.

Aunt North must've noticed this and sighed. "Maire. Don't think and just sleep."

I would do that in a heartbeat but right now, I'm confused as to why I suddenly fainted.

North gave me a deadpanned stare before standing up from the couch. "Just rest—"

BANG!

I flinched in my bed when I heard a door burst open from downstairs.

A rush of footsteps keeps nearing until my bedroom door also bursts open, behind it reveals a worried Shelley, her clean strawberry blonde hair ponytail now a mess from rushing.

Aunt North's shoulder slumps in relief. "Miss Astaze, for the nth time. Don't do that—"

Shelley quickly rans up to me and pulls me in warm but tight hug.

"What happened? Why did you faint? Are you sick? Hurt? Did you forget to eat because you read your new book again?" And she continues to ramble on as I gave Aunt North an apologetic smile.

Moments like this are not new to me. Ten years of being friends with Shelley made me realize how gentle and kind hearted she is and it always scares me that people in the future will use her, not to mention she's an Astaze. A well known family member of the Family Astaze. One mess from her, it's over.

When I first met Shelley, I was five years old while she was eight years old. Who would've thought that as she grew old, responsibilities were already waiting for her. It must be hard to live up to people's expectations. I already knew that she was an important person but that never changed my perspective of her.

To me, she's still Shelley. The one I grew up with.

I smiled and parted Shelley's back, signalling for her to pull away. She did and then fully sat on the bed.

I started explaining everything to her. From the moment Colden lead me somewhere and the part I was in a garden with him.

Although for some reason, I felt like I was missing an important detail. Did I get an amnesia? That's impossible.

I mentally groaned in frustration. Why can't I remember anything?

I sighed and slump on the headboard. "I feel like I'm missing something."

Shelley pursed her lips in worry. "Are you sure your symptoms came out normal? Maybe we should check up again in the hospital."

I shake my head. "No need Shelley, and besides, did you attend classes today?"

She ignored my question. "One second I take my eyes off you today, you are already in this state. I feel guilty."

I sighed. "Don't blame yourself Shelley, please. It's no one's fault."
