Chapter 7 : Trusts We Share

♦♦♦

"Hmm... I wonder if she will have the courage to look for me."

Walking in the middle of the small forest, I ―Auria Auriga― ponder upon the girl that attracted my attention many minutes ago. A cute girl who sleeps under the tree so defenselessly. then upon waking up, that same girl delivered a sudden kick aim to my face. Fortunately, I managed to block her kick easily.

Interesting girl, correct? But regrettably, we only manage to engage in only a short talk. Not that I'm without fault since for being the one who ended the conversation.

At any rate, you may wonder, despite having already said one's goodbyes, why I'm pondering about her might search for me...

Well, the reason, is has something to do with me not having the weapon I should carry around my waist. My sword is not with me. I left it under the tree where we shortly talked together beforehand.

What am I doing and why? Well, I'm implemented what I call the Cinderella approach.

the Cinderella. You know, the fairy tale where the iconic part was the heroine accidentally left her shoe while hurriedly leaving when she realized it was almost midnight. The love interest later then, found the shoe Cinderella accidentally left. Which become the lead to how the love interest found Cinderella where about.

It's an old and yet widespread fairy tale. To the point, it was played on the grand amphitheater or even in the normal in-room theatre.

But why does that have something to do with me intentionally leaving my sword? You may wonder out loud.

Though I hope the reason's already clear, but to briefly explain it. I intentionally left my sword in an effort to gain her attention in hope that she will search for me to give my sword back. And if it ends up succeeding, it will open up a chance for me to interact more with her.

It's not foolproof of course. just her decision to not go searching for me would make the plan crumble to dust. But there is nothing I could do now to raise my chances.

"I hope she at least manages to discover my sword..."

If this approach doesn't work, I'll just continue like normal and head to the front line as previously intended.

In the meantime, I should slow my walking pace and appreciate the nature around me.

Below me, exist a path formed by the horses and other wheeled transportation trampling down grass and other small plants on the soil to go through this forest, creating a natural path through the undergrowth for me to follow. With this, I don't have to be afraid of getting lost. While the trees let only small sunlight go through their dense leaves, leaving the temperature to be just enough for me to not feel the heat, albeit it's created somehow dark and eerie air that surrounded this whole forest beyond the formed path.

Still despite the creepy atmosphere, a feeling sense of calm indulges me while walking through it, causing me to drop my shoulders. Yet my guard is still up to anticipate danger that may come. Even though I'm already fully wrapped in the barrier I created ―that not even a magic explosion could get through― I still have to be careful. After all, I haven't yet trained to detect the danger that was hiding from me.

Still, I walked through the path without haste. Waiting for her to catch up to me from behind. but after many minutes of waiting, there is still no sign of her will showing up. Only the signs of animals lurking beyond the cleared path.

I started to lose hope. Maybe my plan failed. Maybe I'm just waiting for something that won't happen. A false hope I still stubbornly crave.

And realizing it, does not make me pleased either. In fact, the feeling I felt was similar to a feeling one gets when betrayed. Frustration. I want to blame her for this, even though that's not what she's doing at all....
