She walked in the opposite direction to what Joel walked towards, leading into an open doorway that allowed people to walk into a room with old rusting antiques guarded by a small glass box. As if this place was some sort of museum.
As they scanned the room with their eyes and noted that nothing important was in sight, they walked towards another door. A singular big wooden door.
Tess listened out for anything that may be lurking in there, and as she did, she could hear slow, dragging footsteps.
"Infected." She mouthed the word to avoid any attention being drawn on her.
"How many?" She mouthed the words back.
In response, she held up one finger. Eleanore nodded to her, confident that they could easily take the monster out.Tess looked at the doorknob, and then to Eleanore, as a silent way of asking if she was ready for her to go in. She nodded to her before Tess slowly and quietly pulled the doorknob down and pushed the door open slightly, looking in to confirm the position of the infected.
She saw that it was a good distance away, enough of a distance that she could sneak in and manage to get past it without it hearing her. She slowly opened the thankfully silent door as Eleanore followed her, both crouching down as they made their way through the room.
As they carefully made their way through while holding their breath to avoid any possible noise, they reached another door. Once again like clockwork, she put her ear up to the door to see if there was any sign of infected. She shook her head at Eleanore, notifying to her that there was no noise that could be heard.
She tilted her head towards the clicker, once again silently requesting to her. She knew what she had to do. She got her knife ready and slowly stood up as the clicker was walking a few feet away looking in the other direction.
She got up right behind it, close enough that she could hear the tiniest little clicks that it was letting out. She lifted her arm up with her grip tight on the knife and with one sudden movement she dug the knife into its head with full force.
It let out an almost deafening squeal of pain before thudding to the ground. She pulled the knife out and wiped the blood off of her blade on the creatures own torn clothes.
She turned to Tess, ready to go into the next room.
"Not bad." She half joked. She put her pistol in her back pocket, relaxed as she knew that the chances that there were no more infected were high.
She turned around and opened the door, more carelessly than she did before, knowing nothing would be behind it.The first thing they both locked their eyes into was the two bodies on the ground. Two armoured men laying in a pool of both their own blood. Tess put her arms on her head.
"Fuck." She cursed to herself. "Fuck, man." She said, disappointed. It was nothing less than she expected but it was still a horrible feeling. Extreme disappointment. She kicked around the bodies to see if they were laying on any guns, but there were none.
"Son of a bitch that you killed must've got to em." She said with anger in her voice. She pointed to another open doorway.
"Maybe we'll have better luck through there." She said while she started making her way towards the doorway. Just as she made it through, an infected pounced on her, sending her to the ground while she made an attempt to put her arm in-font of her to avoid it from getting to her face.Eleanore ran towards her and immediately stabbed her knife into the creatures head. The body of it fell onto Tess. She breathed heavily, exhausted from this small encounter.
She pushed the body off of her with a grunt and stood up hastily.
"Thanks." She said while out of breath.
"Are you alright?" Eleanore spoke with worried eyes.
"Yeah." She spoke in almost a whisper.
