YEAR FIVE - NOVEMBER 1975
"Don't lose yourself loving the wrong person."Bathed in the shadows of the Gryffindor common room, a lone boy sat in the windows, just simply thinking. The boy had his wand flying through each of his fingers, small inkings on the inside of each, a new project he had recently done. There was a name on the inside of each finger, Prongs, Padfoot, Wormtail, Moony, and Feathers. The wooden wand flickered between each tattooed finger, flipping around his hand as he watched the rain fall on the window. Sirius was never one to stay awake at night, but the last few nights had been causing him some grief.
The Black brother felt his wand slip, clattering onto the stone window cill, he sighed, picking it back up to do it all over again. Sirius wasn't sure why he wasn't able to sleep, he wasn't sure if his mind was playing a sick game on him, or maybe it was his urge to bark at strangers, he wasn't sure. There was a moment where he sat in his bed, watching the other three Marauders around him sleep, jealous of their peacefulness. The boy even heard Remus start to snore, which was very unlike the werewolf, but Sirius thought it was funny. Maybe even cute, but he wouldn't adventure down that path, he hoped he wouldn't at least. Remus was his best friend, and he fancied Rhylara, another one of his best friends.
Intelligence wasn't something Sirius thought he fancied about a partner, the sharpness of their mind wasn't exactly his type. He always thought he preferred their looks over their smarts, their energy over how many questions they could answer correctly. He found himself thinking of a certain werewolf asleep upstairs, he found himself smiling at the thought of him, his heart burning.
As the Black boy stared out the window, he felt his eyes flicker over to the Ravenclaw tower, seeing a light still on in the window. He wondered if Rhylara was doing the same as he, or if some other raven was experiencing his insomniatic episodes as well. He sighed, returning his glance to the environment ahead of him.
Rhylara wasn't experiencing the episode, instead she was cramming information in her head, reading lines in a textbook, then rereading it, then writing it down. She wasn't hopelessly staring out of the windows, she wasn't listening to the rain drip down the windows, she was working on a goal, a dream. There wasn't a night that she wasn't cramming, even though the exams weren't until the end of the year. Smokey was sleeping at her feet, she would occasionally pet the beast with her foot to keep him content.
Sirius heard footsteps coming down the stairs, hearing the creaks and cracks of the wood coming from the girls dormitory. The boy watched as a shaggy haired blonde stepped down, wearing a shirt with little dinosaurs printed across the tee, and small bones across the shorts she wore. Marlene McKinnon, who rubbed her tired eyes, stared at the Black boy in the window, who stared right back.
"Couldn't sleep?" She asked, forgetting her original task, maybe she was thirsty. Sirius nodded, turning his attention back to the rain on the glass, seeing the bats fly around the moon. The full moon was tomorrow, it would mark the third time the Marauders had spent the night with Remus while he was in his werewolf form. Madam Pomfrey had started to miss her patient, but was relieved when he didn't come in with the same severity of injuries as normal.
