The second I climb into Justin's truck, gravity pulls us together and I kiss his lips excitedly while holding his face in my hands. I feel him smiling, his teeth grazing my bottom lip in the process.

My body immediately relaxes after being tense most of the night as I melt into him, kissing his lips over and over to calm down. Kissing him has truly become medicinal.

He takes my hair clip out in the process, his fingers massaging my scalp as we kiss like we're irrevocably in love with each other.

Wouldn't that be something?

We quickly drive off into the night, pitch black surrounding us once we exit the extremely lit Redlake and enter the dimly lit Linford.

I think back to when this used to scare me. Back when I didn't know any better, I had nightmares about getting lost in Linford and not being able to find my way home, only to be abducted by something that crawled out of the dark, open fields in the middle of the night.

With my hand in Justin's and my head that rests comfortably on his shoulder, I know I have nothing to be afraid of. In fact, I feel safer with him than I do at home in my own bed. I know he'd never let anything hurt me as long as we're together.

The soft music from his radio and the muffled noise of the summer night flying by us is the most beautiful sound. I breathe in, amber and warmth instantly sending me to the place of euphoria that I always find with Justin.

It's not long before we pull into the gym parking lot, going around the back like we always do. He quickly jumps out of the driver's side then moves over to mine, prompting me to slip my hand inside of his to help me jump out of the truck.

"Hold on a second," he holds my hand still, backing away just a few steps while looking me up and down. "I didn't get a chance to look at you earlier."

"Oh," I laugh, pulling him backwards so that we're beneath the dim yellow streetlight. "Better?"

This moment is in slow motion. He looks at me like I was made for him— my body, my hands, my hair, my legs all put on this universe for him and him only. When he breathes in I watch him smile, exhaling with soft eyes. The streetlight makes him look unreal. I watch as little tiny moths and fireflies swirl beneath the light, only to meet their demise when they finally reach the bright force.

A moth to a flame.

"You look so beautiful, Jane," he says as if it's the most obvious thing in the entire world. He means this wholeheartedly. I can tell by the way his eyes don't dare leave mine.

Words are hard to articulate because my mouth feels numb. Heat flashes across my face and chest, the smile on my lips present before I can even stop it.

He sees this and pulls me in close by my fingers, bringing us so close that our foreheads and noses brush. Smiles begin to fade and are replaced by slightly harbored breathing, but enough for me to feel his on my bottom lip. Speaking of, I watch his eyes fall to my lips and suddenly appear to be in a trance-like state. There's something about the street light, the chirping crickets, and the nighttime breeze that tangles in our hair as we hold each other closely enough that it would take quite the force to separate us.

Everything is falls into place so perfectly. Too perfectly. It's like the universe put him before me in this moment as if to show me just how perfect he really is.

This isn't lust anymore. It hasn't been for some time. And I think we both know it.

"I know I said I had a surprise planned for you tomorrow," he begins talking, his gentle voice only bringing me security. "But since you're here now and it is your birthday, I think it's only fair we celebrate tonight."
