I carry the last heavy box into my dorm room. "Finally, the last one," I say as I sit down the box. I sit on my not-so-comfortable mattress taking in the space. "Well, honey. It seems you're all moved in now." my mother said, teary-eyed. She walked over to my bed and sat next to me. "I can't believe you're all grown up." She said, wiping her eyes. She took a moment to compose herself and kissed my forehead. She ruffled my hair and walked over to the window. "We can go home right now, no judgment. There are so many other schools closer to home, and without such a daunting past, dear." She was biting her lip. I let out a small sigh. "No Mom," I said walking over to her. I embraced her and pulled away. "This school, though daunting will be huge in my career. The Stab movies being based here and the murders is what makes the place so unique." My mom highly disapproved of my interest in the Stab movies and of my hopes to have a career in Criminology. Just as my mom opened her mouth to speak again, my roommate and her family walked in.

"I'm seriously fine, Mom!" She shouted down the hallway. Carrying entirely too many things for her tiny frame. I haven't met Sam before. I found her listing for needing a roommate in the campus newsletter. She's short, bubbly, and full of life. Her light brown hair bounced when she walked. "Hi! You must be y/n!" she basically squealed. "It's so nice to finally meet you!" she walked over and hugged me. I felt my face flush but half-heartedly hugged her back. I'm not usually the hugging type. "Oh! You must be y/n's mom!" she giddily ran over to hug my mother as well. My mom has always been the hugging type, so just as I suspected she hugged her back happily. "Oh goodness, Samantha! Give the people some room to breathe darling!" I looked up and saw a beautiful woman smiling. Sam's mother.

It took a few hours but soon enough I was unpacked and decorated, and so was Sam. "Well, y/n. It's getting close to dinner. I need to get home. Will you walk me out?" My mother asked. "Of course. C'mon." My mom and I walked across campus to the parking lot where she parked. She hugged me tightly once we reached her car. "Please don't forget to call." She sniffled into my shoulder. "It's going to be so lonely without you. Please don't forget that you can come home whenever you want." she squeezed me once more and backed up. "I won't Mom. I love you." "I love you more." she smiled and got in her car. I waved as she drove off into the distance. It was a gloomy and windy night. I took a deep breath and started walking back to my dorm. The air was quickly picking up, and I felt a shiver go down my spine. It almost felt like I was being watched. I heard leaves crackling. I stopped and looked around, but saw nothing. I'm probably just being ridiculous. "Mom has gotten into your head" I whispered under my breath, walking back to my dorm.
