I heard the door to my balcony shut. I waited for what felt like 10 minutes. I took the blindfold off of my eyes and looked down at my torn-off clothes around the room. Besides the clothes on the floor, it's like he was never even here. I walked over to my mirror and just stared at myself. I didn't know what I felt. I grabbed new clothes and a towel and decided I definitely needed a shower. I threw on a robe to walk to the bathroom and grabbed my ripped-up pajamas. I snuck from my room to the living room and past Billie. I paused for a moment. He was sleeping so peacefully. As I turned to throw away my clothes I bumped right into Darryn. "Jesus Christ!" I whispered. "You scared me." He smiled softly. "Sorry, Y/n. I was just sneaking off to the gym." I looked at the clock on the stove. It was 4:30 in the morning. "Early riser, huh?" He smiled again "I guess so, it's hard to sleep anymore." You could say that again "Definitely. Have a good workout, I'll see you later." We parted ways and I took a nice hot shower.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
After my shower, I changed my bandages. Things were healing well thankfully. I stood in front of the mirror for a moment, staring at myself, my new scars. Classes start in 2 days, the city is in a panic, and it's all because of the man I slept with last night. It's strange to think of it that way, so I don't. I got dressed and started to walk back to my bedroom. "Hey." Billie was awake. "Oh, hey." Why am I being awkward? He looked around to make sure nobody else was here. "Did he come?" I felt my heart racing. "No, maybe tonight." I just lied. I don't know why, maybe it's to protect him. More likely to hide my secrets. He looked frustrated. "Things have been too calm, Y/n. Something is off." He was so concerned. "It's gonna be okay Billie, just let the plan work." He nodded and I walked back into my bedroom. My phone screen was lit up.
Unknown Number: I'm glad you had as much fun as I did. Stay home, or close by today. Things may get a little crazy. I'll let you know when I'm finished.
I sighed. Someone else is going to die today. Should I call someone? Tell Billie or Sam? I can't. I'll look to suspicious. I deleted the text thread, and decided to take a short nap. I felt like I had only been asleep for a few minutes when I was being shaken awake by Billie. "Y/n, get up." I opened my eyes, Billie panicked. I didn't even need to hear him say it. "Justin, he's dead too." He grabbed my hand and we walked into the living room, where Sam was crying and Darryn was comforting her. I checked our microwave clock and it was 9:30 a.m. "Sam, I'm so sorry." I walked over and sat next to her. The news was on.
"Breaking news: Woodsboro Police Department reports another murder. Justin Montgomery was murdered in his families home earlier this morning. This is the killers third victim following the sudden deaths of Drew Anthony, and Tatum Carter. These were originally considered isolated instances, but now we believe there is a killer on a spree. The city has issued a 10 p.m. curfew for all non-essential travel. It is recommended to travel in groups. If you have any information that could help, please call The Woodsboro Police Department at-"
Darryn turned the TV off. Sam was sulking into his chest. "Joe is on- his way." She hiccupped. "Who's Joe?" I asked. "The guy who saved your life." Billie cut in. "He tried to save my brother. He's so supportive, it's nice to have him around." I felt so awful for Sam. I felt awful for keeping secrets. I couldn't prevent any of this, though. I got up and walked into the kitchen and started to make more tea for everyone. It's all I could do. The water was heating up and I got a text.
Unknown number: Well that was a bit messier than I had planned. You're all good to do what you please now. Stay safe.
Ironic how the masked killer who broke in my window is telling ME to stay safe. I poured all the mugs full of hot water, added a little bit of sugar and tea bags. I deleted that text thread and heard a knock at the door. I opened it and saw Joe. "Joe, hey come in." He seemed surprised. "Sam told me your name." I explained. "Well I never did get to formally introduce myself." He smiled. "How are you?" I did genuinely care. He was so sweet. "I'll be better once this is all over." He seemed so relaxed. It was odd. "Do you need help?" He nodded toward all the mugs. "Yeah, I could use it." I smiled. He smiled back and grabbed an armful of mugs. I felt my face flush. He helped me hand over all the mugs and we all sat down. "Sam, I'm so sorry." He rubbed her back as she continued crying. He was wearing a short sleeve grey shirt, black jeans, and he looked like he hadn't slept in days. I suppose if these were my close friends I wouldn't be sleeping much either. We all sat together. Nobody spoke. "Joe, can I talk to you?" I broke the silence and everyone was staring at me. "Yeah, of course." We walked into my bedroom and I gently shut the door behind me. "I just wanted to take a minute to actually thank you for saving me. It was a really scary situation, I don't know what I was thinking." I was hoping he would believe that. "I know what you were thinking." he stated. "You thought you could sacrifice yourself for all of us, but I could never let you do that." I sighed a breath of relief. He was definitely wrong, but the less people that know about all of this the better. "Thank you, for saving me. I'm sorry you got hurt in the process. How are you?" I asked. "I'm much better now, just a few bumps and bruises. He isn't going to get me that easily." We both smiled at each other. He turned. "You should really get this door fixed." He walked over to my balcony door. I watched as he reached up to secure it. As he did this I noticed his shirt sleeve fell up to his shoulder. Nail marks? I felt my eyes go wide. There's no way. That has to just be a coincidence. My heart was racing. "Like the view?" he asked, chuckling softly. I was staring that whole time. My face was hot. "Just watching you fix the door!" I exclaimed a little too loudly. "All fixed now." He grinned and we walked into the living room. My mind was going in a hundred different directions. "Joe?" Sam asked. "Yeah?" He asked softly. He was a very delicate person, in speech, in behavior. There's no way it's him. "I wanted to offer to let you stay here as well. We're safe in numbers. I don't want to lose you too." She was still crying, I swear I thought he and Darryn exchanged a glance. "Of course, Sam. You're right. Safety in numbers." I was feeling a little dizzy when my phone rang. Shit I got up and walked into the kitchen. "Hey Mom." I answered.
