I notice that the rain has began to slow down to a soft drizzle. Talking to Daryl all night and morning was (surprisingly) exactly the cure to my unhappiness. He isn't too smug at all, actually. He talked on & on about his life before all of this and how he never meant anything to anyone. He seems somewhat damaged-like me. I nod and smile at the appropriate times. His speech starts to slur from exhaustion.
Daryl: "Well, I guess I've talked to you enough about my borin' life."
Rick: "(Y/N)? It's shift change. Daryl, you and (Y/N) can go and hunt since you two are the only one's awake."
(Y/N): For once, I was excited about today. Not even the fact that I could be brutally eaten by a walker could ruin me. I may be running on little sleep, but I'm looking forward to being with Daryl, even if it's only for a second.
Daryl: As soon as Rick got to his position next to the old wooden door in the barn, Daryl grabbed (Y/N)'s hand and led her into the woods, not once glancing in her direction. "Just a few more steps, and we'll be there."
Daryl: When they finally arrive, he carefully places his crossbow on the ground and stands directly in front of (Y/N). "Listen. You've been with us for several weeks. I may not have had the courage to speak to you, but I have been watching. You're with all of these kind people and yet, you're still alone-afraid. I want you to be happy..at least with me."
(Y/N) "I'm not the only one damaged here." She suddenly looks up with tears in her eyes.
Daryl: He simply walks over to (Y/N) and gently circles her shoulder with his index finger. He slowly makes his way to her hand and starts kissing it all the way up to her shoulder. Then, he starts toward her ear and whispers in a dark voice, "No, you're not." Daryl then backs away and picks up his crossbow and continues his business like nothing had ever happened.
(Y/N) "Daryl?"
Daryl: He turns around and quickly says, "I'm not that easy to be with. We're both damaged, but if you really want me, then you're gonna have to work for it."
