106 today! How I wish I could have actually met you and gotten to know you! You're truly a fascinating person. I always think back to an interview you gave where you said that you hoped to be remembered as a "damn good entertainer and that's it." I hope that you can see how much of a legacy you left behind, and how many people's lives you have touched through the years, both by your generosity and your music.
Yes, Mr. Martin, you are remembered as so much more than a damn good entertainer. Your music has become the soundtrack of people's lives. Your songs have gotten me through the best and through the worst.
So, Mr. Martin, I wish you the happiest of heavenly birthdays as I think about how much you and your music have come to mean to me over the years.
A toast to you, Mr. Martin. I hope the party is swingin' in heaven tonight. (But maybe not too swingin' so you can golf tomorrow.)
