"Where's Dallas?" I practically yelled.
Darry looked at me with a worried expression and started to say something, but I didn't wait. I ran past Darry and Soda, and ran in the direction they were looking. They kept yelling my name, but I ignored them. Dallas was the one person I couldn't lose, especially tonight. If something happens to him, there's no telling what I'd do. Where would he go? Maybe the lot, or the park? Both of them were that way.
Even though I was tired as ever, I kept running and didn't stop. I won't go back until I find Dallas. I can't. I run as fast as I can to the lot hoping I'll see him there, but when I get there he's nowhere in sight.
I felt like crying. I'm actually surprised I'm not. Dally could be anywhere, and I don't even know why I'm running around looking for him. I sit down on the curb and lay on the grass, trying to catch my breath. I look up at the stars, and I can't help but think of Johnny. Why did Johnny have to die? He didn't deserve it. He didn't deserve to die. If it were Dally or me we might have survived, but Johnny wouldn't, and he didn't. His voice rings through my mind: "Stay gold..." What did he mean? My train of thought came to a violent stop when I heard someone frantically calling my name.
"Ponyboy!" I'd recognize that voice anywhere. It was Soda. I sat up and listened closer, and I didn't hear anyone else with him. "Pony, where are you?"
I don't know why I didn't answer. I just looked down at the ground, and waited for him to find me. Soda's calls were getting closer, then I heard footsteps run toward me.
"Pony, are you okay?" He knelt in front of me and inspected my face, which was still beat up from the rumble. "Listen, we gotta go get Dally. He called Darry from a payphone, and the police are after him." He rambled.
We quickly got up, and started running to the park where Soda said we were meeting him. When we get closer to the park we see the rest of our gang ahead of us, so we catch up to them. We all run to park as fast as we can, and see Dally running from the other side being chased by two cop cars.
All of the sudden, a cop jumps out of his car and tackles Dally to the ground, which makes all of us skid to a halt. Dally was yelling and swearing, trying to get away. By then another cop was holding him down. I just stood there, watching. What did he do? There was a lot I didn't know.
As they were putting the handcuffs on Dally, he looked straight at me. Not with hatred...not with anger...but with sorrow, and regret. As they hauled him to his feet he fought back as much as he could, but they were too strong to let him loose.
"Pony!" I heard him yell as he was trying to break free and run to us. As they dragged him to the cop car, I ran after him. Everyone else stayed right where they were, maybe because he called for me specifically. I was almost there when they threw him in the car. I ran up the hill and stopped in front of Dally's window.
"Pony, listen to me," I tried my best to focus. "everything'll be alright. I'll get outta here and everything will be fine-" They started driving away before he could finish. I stared at the back window of the car, and saw Dallas looking back at me. I already lost someone, I don't want to lose another. Without realizing, I suddenly start chasing the car. After chasing it for a short distance, I slow down and eventually stop. Little did I know that was the last time I'd see him alive.
Sorry, but it ends there! Let me know if I should continue this or not! :)
