hanjisung was known for getting detention sessions quite literally every day. he honestly didn't care about getting into detention— it's not like he's done anything so bad that it would end up being recorded in his end of year report. most of it are actually just the usual stuff. talking in class, ignoring his assignments, showing up late, making snarky comments to the teachers... it was all part of the routine.
his knack for causing mild chaos in the most harmless ways made him a regular in the detention room. the teachers had given up on trying to change him, and even the principal had learned to shrug it off, especially when he walked in with that mischievous grin on his face, looking like he didn't have a care in the world.
the first time he landed in detention had been purely accidental. he had thrown a paper airplane across the room in the middle of a lecture, aiming it at one of his friends. instead, it hit the teacher right in the face, and in a moment of sheer panic, jisung had muttered something sarcastic about the lesson.
it had been enough to earn him his first detention, but after that, it became a sort of game. every time he misbehaved, whether it was drawing graffiti on his desk or passing notes during exams, he found himself in the same room with the same kids who didn't care either.
to him, detention wasn't a punishment, just a place to kill time. he'd sit there, pretending to do the worksheets the teacher handed out, all the while he'd be scribbling random doodles or planning his next 'harmless' prank. most of the other kids would either stare blankly at their desks or chat among themselves. jisung? he was too busy finding ways to entertain himself.
he never really worried about getting into trouble. after all, what could they do? give him a few extra hours of boredom? he'd survive. the worst part of detention was the silence, but even that didn't faze him. if anything, he found ways to break it— cracking jokes, talking to the other students, or even finding new ways to get caught and sent back the next day.
it had become a habit, and now, detention was just another part of his daily schedule, like lunch or a nap.
"han jisung! late, again. do you not care about your future at all? all these detention dates will be recorded in your report book and it would affect your ability to choose a proper company to work at!"
yeah, honestly, jisung didn't really care since he would be under his dad's company immediately after graduating. all that mattered was his grades and of course, it was what he chose to prioritise.
most of the people in his class found him funny so it was no surprise that they would talk to him quite often. what was something that was also not surprising, was the fact that some people didn't like him due to his lack of seriousness contradicting his overwhelming intelligence.
but jisung didn't mind. he wasn't here to please everyone. if anything, their disapproval only made things more entertaining. he wasn't trying to be the class clown or the rebel without a cause— he was just... bored. and boredom made him do things. like switching all the keyboard keys in the computer lab just to watch the IT teacher lose it, or putting googly eyes on the hallway portraits of old headmasters.
the attention never bothered him either. whether it was a laugh from the back of the room or a glare from someone who actually cared about school politics, jisung took it all in stride. he wasn't trying to be liked. he just didn't want to be invisible.
"you're gonna end up getting kicked out one day," someone had told him once, maybe out of genuine concern, or maybe just to sound superior.
jisung had just grinned and shrugged. "nah, they love me too much."
truth was, despite the mess he caused, his teachers never really hated him. they were exhausted, sure. frustrated, definitely. but there was something oddly charming about the way jisung never crossed the line. he knew exactly how far to push, how to keep things from spiraling into real trouble. he danced on the edge, always with a smirk and a lazy excuse ready.
